Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: m1tch on September 21, 2008, 01:34:47 PM
Went to santapod yesterday and ran a 14.8 on my stock FC :3gears-rh running at 0.5bar of boost

My ET speed was at around the 94mph mark :)

on my last run on another day I had taken everything out of my car but due to my tyres being rubbish I couldn\'t get the power down last time. This time I was running with the spare wheel in, giving me more weight over the back creating more traction :)

Not sure, but its newer than my car lol the problem is that the stock turbo runs out of pull quite low down the rev range, on another run my car was keeping up with an M5 but cause it was only boosting to 0.5 bar there wasn\'t any more power at the top end

What is standard boost then? 0.5 bar? I thought it was a little more than that?

btw mate, have you got a BOV on your car? I know your car is basically stock

yeah i fitted it a couple of days ago, greddy type-rs.

Yeah that car did have a lot of pennies thrown at it....and your car kept up in basically a stock state lol slow piston powered cars, why don\'t they just give up? :D Hmm I was gonna offer you a spare DV24 baileys BOV that I accidently got for my car, but its only for FD rx7s it seems, but hey you already have one lol

nice run :)

0.5 bar of boost sounds a bit low, is that what the stock boost is?

boost controller ftw :D
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: m1tch on September 21, 2008, 10:18:10 PM
The stock boost on an FC is 0.5-0.6 bar, wastegate opens at 0.6 and keeps it at a steady 0.5, its a really small turbo lol I need to get an after market ECU like an emanage, but i need to find a harness to fit it, then I can get a boost controller, else I will run out of map lol
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 21, 2008, 10:18:32 PM
I thought stock boost was around 0.7 bar? Not totally sure just thought I\'d read it somewhere before. Nice run by the way. Very good for a stock FC.
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: m1tch on September 21, 2008, 10:30:08 PM
I think you can squeze 0.7 bar out of a stock turbo, but my racetech boost guage is telling me it gets to 0.6 and then the wastegate opens, might just be my car although it is a \'91 with the most revised and updated ECU and specs
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 21, 2008, 10:42:02 PM
Narr the turbo is good for about 1 bar. I\'ve had mine up nearly as high as that. You might need a stronger wastegate spring or something though. Mine was like it when I got it so can\'t really elaborate much more cause I don\'t know what was done before I got it.

Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 21, 2008, 10:44:08 PM
What are the updated specs? I\'ve got a 91 sat on the drive but havent noticed any difference between that and my 1990 one
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: m1tch on September 21, 2008, 10:54:54 PM
I think it had a different ECU, mine doesn\'t have a rev limiter lol
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 21, 2008, 10:57:09 PM
Mines a non runner so don\'t know about that! I\'ll have to have a look on the ecu and see what the number on it is and compare it to my other one
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: m1tch on September 21, 2008, 11:05:22 PM
Yeah I will do at some point, I have checked it before and seems to still be stock, so unless someone has chipped it, its running a stock ecu, how on earth can you get 1 bar of boost out of such an iccle turbo lol I would rather change the turbo than run the stock turbo about 150% lol
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 21, 2008, 11:16:17 PM
Yeah I wouldn\'t like to either. With the right Mods to support it 0.9 bar is fine from what I\'ve heard. Think mine is hitting around 14 psi on full load at the minute which is about 0.9 bar then it drops off to around 5psi.

Im aiming for 400bhp lol :) I need to find a wiring harness for an e-manage, you know of any suppliers? I can only get the FD ones :(

Not off the top of my head. Prof running one isn\'t he? Might be worth asking him

400bhp in an FC will be a lot of fun. You gonna do a write up along the way?

It looks like I have managed to find a harness to tap into, which is good lol I saw that HKS one as well, its just a chipped ECU, Im going to go for an e-manage as its more adjustable and can be changed easily :)

Stock boost in a TII should be around 0.45bar IIRC - with the right mods you can double that fairly easily... ;) :wave
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 22, 2008, 08:52:15 AM
Think I\'ve been getting mixed up with bar and psi. 0.45 bar would work out around 7psi or so. That must have been what i read not 0.7 bar!
Title: My 14.8 stock drag run :)
Post by: m1tch on September 22, 2008, 09:07:05 AM
lol that makes more sense :) 0.5 bar is 7.25psi which is basically giving me as much boost as an asmatic sneeze, I will probably get an e-manage soon so that I can ensure that I have mapping for a higher boost level, before I play around with the boost lol its going to be interesting to find out what time gets knocked off when I put my new shiny shiny top mount on....and the fuel pump...HT leads....greddy compression tube....intercooler sprayer....2 new tyres.....aluminium bonnet....front splitter.....new spoiler on :)

greddy compression tube..?
what does that do?

sounds like u gonna have a nice monster there =)

Probably the most misnamed product - since it does exactly the opposite ! :Giggle

It\'s basically an adaptor for the throttle body that allows the air to enter straight on and not through 90 degrees. It\'s considerably larger than the stock unit and doesn\'t have that tight 45 bend in it.

And according to the gas laws, as the volume increases, pressure or temperature or both will drop as the air passes through it

The compression tube allows for aftermarket intercoolers to be fitted, as well as the fact that it gives much better air flow than the OEM design :)

I am doing the safety mods such as the HT leads, fuel pump, charge cooling and mapping before I even try and increase the power, the car is 17 years old, if the fuel pump fails (which it might do if you push the engine) its bad lol likewise with the notoriously thin and breakable OEM HT leads, new HT leads might help with the emmissions as well anyway as the trailing plug ignites any unburnt fuel

Im going to be running this stock turbo until I get my engine rebuilt (which might be a while as its giving me 7s on both rotors @ 81k miles, I will then get it ported and then add on either a T04S, T70 or GT45 after the rebuild (I already have the shiny exhaust manifold for it lol I might swap out the secondarys after I have dynoed the car on both stock and aftermarket ECU settings before pushing for more boost, more boost + maxxed stock injectors = lean + expensive noises

On an FD it is - as theres bend around, but ours are called throttle adapators or compression tubes :)

On that last video with the FD, im racing a escort cosworth and it ran a 14.4, on that run I ran a 14.9 I think, we all know what a stock FC engine looks like, but this was his engine bay.....not really stock:

This is taken from teamFC3S.org on stock boost pressures, which mine is boosting to:

5.5psi Stock Boost for 1987-1988 Turbo II (6.2psi max peak)
7.5psi Stock Boost for 1989-1991 Turbo II (8.6psi max peak)

7.5psi = 0.51bar
8.6psi = 0.58bar

stock ECU will cut fuel at 8.6psi....grrr ive run out of map lol
