either that or the connection for the popup button isnt pushed in correctly
with this dissconected in a MX5 they will popup when you turn the light on but never return down.

have another fiddle on there - remove dash and just check if you can...

also to test relay just take it out and insert it back in while its running or ignition is on (if you hear it clicking its working ok)..

what dose it mean if it dose click?

it all seems a bit odd tho why some thing would work fine and then just stop.

you can do it yourself leave igniton on or engine running and pull relay out and re insert it should click on refitting it as the system is live..

if it clicks your fault is elsewere..

If the switch does nothing, maybe faulty or feed wire has broke or come off, if not then must be a faulty retract relay, or broken wire to it, you could pull off the red/yellow wire on the retract relay and give it 12v to see if they go down, if they do would think it is the relay.

I had the same problem with mine mate, Had the dash apart & when I fitted it all back together the lights came up & operated as normal, but when I turned them off the lights whent off but didnt\'t drop! Turned out that I had actualy opend up the switch slightly (wire plug was in OK) but because the switch unit had opend it wasn\'t completing the circuit!

Pop the dash off again & check you haven\'t done the same as me... literaly push the unit back & it will all click into place & work as normal!!

looked at the front relay box in the engine bay, and under where is says retrac relay, there is nothing there :S so i am not sure if it is some where else? spotted a relay beside the main "big" fuse box??

Title: my headlights will not go down!
Post by: hairyhoover on April 14, 2009, 05:19:31 PM
the wrong connect block was connect behind the clocks?
Title: my headlights will not go down!
Post by: Bobbit on April 14, 2009, 05:21:56 PM
yes it was bud, there are a couple of connectors that are the same behind the dash, after spending a few hours trying to fix this we gave up in the end. Then Stephen took the dash apart again and tried a different connector block and hey presto. Have you removed the dash recently?
