Has anyone removed their abs, the back 2 sensors were knackered and my abs hasn\'t been workingproperly. Want to know of any pros and cons of the abs and anyone who has removed it.
I don\'t know about the Mazda but i\'ve replaced all the brakes on my Cavalier and the ABS sensor was mangled on that now occassionally when i brake the ABS cuts in for no reason. If you find a way of living without it let me know ha
well fixing it is STUPIDLY expensive Mazda charge something like £1700 for a new set of sensors and ABS kit! You can just take the ABS fuse out!
well i could lock the wheels up before with no kick from the abs, so i think i will remove it.
My FC had the ABS removed and it was fine for normal driving. Just be careful when breaking hard in the wet, if the fronts lock up you will have to do some cadence breaking or you won\'t stop!
Took my ABS out and its great, just need to be careful under heavy breaking in the wet and on sharp bends as the wheels will be more likely to lock up. I think I have some ABS sensors somewhere from when I removed mine should you be after some?
I\'ve removed the GAY-BS completely from my FD. The only thing left is the toothed ring on the hubs.
I was gonna remove the ABS from my fc. In the end I didnt because I really needed it one day in the FD - Had to stop pretty shaply and take avoiding action at the same time, dont think it would have happened it it wasnt there!
My ABS light on my FC has come on, is it common for the lil sensors to go?
cant you just replace the sensors ?
sensors = crazy £££££s
My TII is stripped down and under rebuild the same as yours Colin. Great fun. With regard to the ABS I have driven this car at least 40,000 without the ABS working. When I started stripping the car down I found that the ABS bulb in the dash had been lifted and wedged off the contact on the PC board. I had a chat with my local MOT guy to make sure that I was covering as much as poss. before having the car tested. He told me that the current MOT requires that if ABS is fitted it must be seen to work. ( Lights up when car is started and goes off after a few seconds with the engine running ) if not the car will fail. He also said that if the system is removed it must be removed comlpete ( Pump, cables, sensors and control unit ) and the tester my require proof that the system was not standard when the car was new. ABS was standard on the 89 Turbo II\'s. If anyone has had their car pass an MOT without the ABS working please let me know.
Im pretty sure that ABS was optional for the turbo IIs as I know profs convertable hasn\'t got it and mine does...it just get in the way of the plugs lol
Yes ABS was an option on the Cab. but was standard on the Coupe.
The spec sheet attached was taken from an original Mazda promo.
When i had my FC i had never really tested the abs as my front wheel never lock up, but tha may be i m not givin it enough tho, just take it wasy on the wet and you will be fine without the ABS
Personnally, i like to keep it as i too have had to use it once and would have gone into the back of someone had I not had it. It takes up room, but it\'s there for a reason - safety.
