Title: I\'ve finally got her!!
Post by: Brad1234 on September 15, 2008, 04:39:36 PM
Good news! I have finally managed to get my 2nd gen Rx7!!

My dad drove me down to slough on saturday to pick up Scarlett, (as seen on this forum) I met doug, who i had spoke to briefly on the phone, he was a great laff, but more importantly didn\'t try to pull the wool over my eyes. I also saw James who was great in letting me have a poke and a prod at his car too, for comparison.

I was happy with what i saw so i handed over the readies and grove \'Scarlett\' away. And what a drive it was, I drove nearly 200 miles in her back to Manchester and it was fantastic, I didn\'t want to stop!

needless to say she is back home safe with me now, albeit under a different handle, i\'ve decided to call her \'Ruby\', The only reason is, is because when I was a baby, apparently I had a bit of a thing for the song \'Ruby Baby\' by Donald Fagen, I couldn\'t sleep without it on!! :Giggle
I know some of you think this is sad but quite frankly i dont give a sh-it! :Giggle  I\'m just glad to have her.

A big thanks goes out to anyone who has given me advice on purchasing my Rx7, it was much needed and well appreciated, especially Brett and his UBER e-mails!!  :Thumbs-up  cheers pal!

Anyway I hope to be joining the club soon, so there will be plenty of good times to come for me and \'Ruby\' and i hope to see all you fine people at the various meets and shows throughout the year.

Cya all soon

Brad

Hello mate how was the drive home? did you get a headache? lol

Also did you ring me last night?
Title: I\'ve finally got her!!
Post by: Brad1234 on September 17, 2008, 06:04:53 PM
hey doug, the drive home was brilliant, i have got used to the noise now and i have found out that there is a hole in the exhaust, so i will be patching that up very shortly and seeing what the difference is.

i did ring you the other night, she broke down in asda car park, i thought she was flooded but it turns out all the spark plugs were loose, one wasnt even in the block it was just resting in the hole, also the rotor arm and cap had loads of green corrosion on them, oh and the oil was just below minimum, after sortin that though it was fine! at first i didnt know that it had any of these problems and was just ringin u to see if anything like this had happened to you at all, just in case it was something trivial and so i didnt screw anything up.

shes runnin fine now though!! :D

Really? sh*te sorry mate i don\'t know what to say.
I checked all the fluid levels before you came down and she was fine, in fact i topped her oil off because i left you some in the back of the car. As for the plugs i really don\'t know what happened there, i don\'t know if they can work loose or if they just weren\'t put in properly at the time but i can\'t see it being the latter because i never had an issue with her starting or anything before.

Hope she\'s running okay now. Really sorry about that.

Bizarrely enough the only place the car ever broke down on me was in an ASDA car park....

yeah no worries doug, she got me home fine and now she runs like a dream, my mate tried dragging me in his BMW 320i...   ....i made mince meat of him!
he said he gave it all it\'s got but to be honest i was barely tickling it!

oh ye, i had a look at the exhaust today, there were 2 brackets broken that i welded back up and it\'s a str8 thru system thats why it makes the racket it does!

hope you dont think i\'m having a go when i tell you about these problems, i love gettin my hands dirty and i adore this car, i\'m happy as larry!!

also, did you uprate the rear suspenssion with gas coilovers or were they already on it?

No i dont think that, i know you were honest, and to be fair i expected her to be worse than she is, being 20 years old an everything. but honestly shes brilliant. As i said, sorted the few trivial niggles an shes been fine ever since and i know what you mean about th gears, they jus seem to go on forever, i can short shift an still beat most things (especially audi a3\'s) between lights!

You sound very pleased with her mate, nice one :) This is making me want my TII finished, quite glad i didn\'t sell it when i planned to, the engine died and it simply wouldn\'t have been worth fixing just to sell... Shes nearly done! :)
What do the EGI\'s go like then? Obviously you\'re pretty happy with it!

Well all I got told from the moment I mentioned I wanted an EGI was that they aint the quickest in the wold and I won\'t be winning any drag races, but mine goes like stink!
When i hit the buzzer at 7k in third I\'m absolutely flying, I can\'t tell you how fast because I don\'t really concentrate on the speedo!

Good luck in getting yours finished tho, bet you cant wait :)     just curious, what did the engine die of?

NB: Don\'t ge me wrong I dont live on the red line, I do take care of my motor, but every now and again on a nice straight road, it\'s just nice to get the juices flowing... ...so to speak! :D

Yeah the rears are blue coilovers, I didnt really get to see the fronts properly. I just noticed a sticker on the rears saying "GAS..something something....." then underneath that it gave the max and minimum pressures, if i remember correctly.
I just thought this was a bit of a strange thing to stick on standard gear!

i\'ll be at guys on sunday so you will be able to see \'em then if you wanna propa look :)

Yeah, secondhand engine. Havent pulled mine apart to check it out, but i will. Nothing made a difference, tried all the tricks on here, and still no compression on one stroke :( So new engine, rad & service and it seems to be ok, time will tell though. Still havent really driven it at all...

No mine we\'re Bilstiens. Still had the stickers on when I took them off. Still have them under my work bench. Stock springs just Bilstien dampers.

Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 24, 2008, 01:58:10 PM
Yeah the fronts were stock. but It had a strut brace on the front so was nice and stiff. To be honest It worked really well as the Bilstiens were that bit harder. Kinda miss them a little. Well not that much mow I\'ve got my coilovers!

Title: I\'ve finally got her!!
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 24, 2008, 04:23:57 PM
I would think they would fit.  don\'t think the mountings would be any different. Would be to expensive to make 2 different set ups for a production line. Might be worth asking on here though. Make me an offer and I\'ll consider selling them.
Title: I\'ve finally got her!!
Post by: dthebuk on September 24, 2008, 08:36:41 PM
looks like they\'ll fit. I have no idea about price though tbh.

any idea what kinda mileage they\'ve done?

i\'d guess around 40-50 quid for the pair with springs. But like i said, i have no idea
Title: I\'ve finally got her!!
Post by: TiddlesRX7 on September 24, 2008, 10:34:29 PM
Not sure of the milage. But the car was rebuilt and had a lot of uprated work done at the same time by a previous owner (he raced the car) this was done around 25k-30k ago. The shocks are in good working order. The only reason I swapped them out was because I had a leak on one of the original front shocks so I bought a full set of coilovers to replace it. I was thinking more along the lines of £100 for the pair to be honest. What do you reckon?
I\'ll get some pic\'s up next time I go to work for you. Then you know what your looking at.

Post by: Brad1234 on September 29, 2008, 08:11:03 PM
hey all,

guess what..........

...........more chuffin problems!!

Yesterday on the way back from the meet my alternator belt snapped!

I managed to limp th car to the services where i could see it properly and i bought an emergency fan belt thing I have never used one before and I dont know everyone elses experience with these, but this one was made by a company called metro and it was absolutely ****e.
I did everything it said on the packet, I turned the engine over and after 2 seconds it snapped! not at the join tho, half way down the actual belt, consequently i had to phone my recovery service and they dragged me home.

Anyway, this morning i put a new belt on and realised why the belt had snapped in the first place, It was running out of line.

Some \'half a job\' ****in bell end had replaced the alternator and put the spacer which goes inbetween the bracket and the alternator on the wrong side of the bracket, which offset the alternator, caused the belt to run out of line and snap. had I been travelling any slower would have probably cost me an engine :2Mad

I wish these bloody idiots who dont have a clue would just leave things they dont know about, well alone. Or just ask somebody who knows what he/she is talkin about, it only takes 2 mins to ask someone and can save an engine and a whole lotta hassle!

Anyway we sorted it now and it runs perfectly in line!!

Anyone else currently experiencing problems with jobs these ****in cowboys \'think\' they can do?

The alternator was changed in five minutes in the pitch black because the car had broken down and was needed in an actual emergency!! it was changed by two friends of mine, one who is a qualified RAC technician and the other who works on Rotary\'s for a living!! If a mistake was made then it was made because i was rushing them!! If you feel the need to slag off my friends some more then perhaps you could do it in private where both i and they cannot see it!!
I\'m sorry the car has been such a hassle for you i can\'t think why as i owned the car for 7 months put over 5000 miles on it and it broke down once on me!! ironically enough it was the alternator.
Title: I\'ve finally got her!!
Post by: DemonRx4 on October 02, 2008, 11:45:33 AM
That was the revised version as the first one contained a lot of swearing.

I invested a fortune in the car as it was a daily driver as a result i only had to call out the recovery guys once! I practically gave the car away because i needed the money NOT because i knew it was a dog.

If you want to sell it back Brad i will happily give you what you paid for it mate.

cmon guys, calm down with the slaggin off

if there was a mistake, it wasn\'t clearly wasnt on purpose

like u said the job was rushed clearly an honest mistake.

also for the price the car was freaking cheap.

no taking sides...but guys, wheres the rotary love?

i still think the car was a steal - and the probs mentioned arent massive and i would consider them refelected in the price - but thats just my £0.02p worth

crickey i bought a car that looked superb and drove well etc... - only to find it had no cills in it :( - but thats they joy of buying second hand cars

Post by: Brad1234 on October 04, 2008, 02:23:28 PM
OK OK, Lets get some things cleared up.

I am not slaggin anyone off. Especially not the car.

I admit, the previous post was a bit harsh, I apologise sincerely for any upset caused.

The car has been anything but a hassle. I fell in love with it from the moment I drove it and i understand you have put a lot of time and money into it and at the price i got the car for, yes she was an absolute bargain. I am NOT on any level thinking about gettin rid of her.

All you have to understand is that for the past four years I have owned and worked on cars and commercials and have seen quite a lot of \'cowboy\' antics. Most of which either led to accident or could have done if we hadnt caught them in time.

In this instance it was a genuine mistake and as i said before I apologise for my previous words.

from what I understood you werent a mechanic doug so I assumed u sent your cars to a local garage. I hoped if you read my post you may have avoided going to that garage again and I MAY have done you a favour.

As it happens I was wrong. We have all made mistakes whilst rushing and this was just one of those times.

I dont for one minute think you had sold the car because it was a \'dog\' I have already mentioned on here that you did NOT once try to pull the wool over my eyes and for that I am grateful.

I really hope I have not caused any animosity and have not p1ssed you off too much doug. Also I hope you and your friends accept my apology.

As I said I love this car and she has been anything but a hassle, after these little niggles were sorted she hasn\'t let me down and im sure she wont for a long while also i think she is slightly better on fuel economy than you thought!

I\'m sorry Doug, as I said the last thing I waanna do is fall out with anyone.

I need a new wheel. some of the rim of one of my rear wheels was smashed off tonight. i was bringin the missus home late after she had been out on the P155, we got near the pub on our street about kicking out time, some drunken bum fell into the road and i had to swerve out of the way. It was hammerin down with rain an the back end jus did its own thing straight into the kerb, luckily nothin else is damaged but my missus cracked her head on the window an is in a bad way,

If anyone has a TII wheel knockin around or even a set of TII wheels, can you let me know please and ill come with cash to get em, my Internet is bein very tempremental at the mo so if i don reply straight away i\'m not bein ignorant.

cheers guys.
