Hi,
I need to change my exhaust.
Current set up, Dragon cat bypass pipe to a Hyper SR back box. Full system is 75mm Diameter with 120mm diameter outlet on the back box.
Engine is mapped to 540bhp. Advised I should stick to 75mm diameter main pipe size.
I have read threads on here that certain exhausts are too loud.
I am considering the 5Zigen ProRace.
Which exhausts are suitable for the RX and which would you recommend ?
Thanks
Chris
didnt realise your car was putting out that much power mate :D
i dont quite understand what your saying though, currently 75mm but advised 75mm
Always a hard thing to say. The mid-pipe silencer made a difference but has taken away too much power. I wouldn\'t go with anything less than 75mm or you won\'t see the same amount of power. I\'m running a 3in setup with the smaller turbo :D

Sorry, I should have clarified.
The main exhaust pipe diameter is 75mm thru\' to the rear silencer.
I have been advise that for the bhp of the engine I can use a replacement exhaust with 75mm pipe, I do not have to upgrade to 90mm.

My backbox is a 5Zigen but not sure which one !

Shaun,
Yours is louder than mine !!
I have read that the Blitz Nurspec are loud and some of the Kakimoto (spelling may be incorrect).
I was hoping the 5Zigen might not be (too) loud.

Its quieter now with the silencer from WGT. But its 60mm diameter and killing the power and boost level. Thinking of making my own mid-pipe silencer and doing some experiments.
Do you have a silencer in the middle at the minute though. The last time you saw my car it was 3in straight through :D
Shaun
No mid silencer, just 75mm straight thru\' from the turbo to the back box.
Does your 5Zigen have a slash cut end ?
Chris
Having spoken to Martin the 5Zigen pro racer has a 65mm pipe up to the first silencer then it opens out. I was after it till I found this out
The 5zigens tend to be quite loud. Kakimoto more so unless you get the dual silenced versions.
Are you looking to keep the "jap" look rear muffler or are you open to more subtle styles?
We sell 5Zigen and yes they are loud but more than that I would advise being cautious because if you fit an exhaust that flows more freely that the exhaust you were mapped with you may risk boost spikes which is not good and potentialy life threatening

No, just a straight cut !
Shaun
Thanks for your replies. (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif)
I would prefer to keep the Jap style.
Thanks for the news on the 5Zigen pro race being 65mm up to the first silencer (I too was looking at the one Martin has).
Clive - Good point about mapping, I have discussed this with Pip and we agree that (depending on the type of exhaust selected) it would be benificial to have a run on the rolling road to check the map is still okay for the new exhaust.
I\'ll keep looking.
Thanks
Chris
maybe something custom made in double 60mm tubing from DP to rear catback?
Double 60mm gives you mroe flow than a single 75mm and lower sound level (deeper) as smaller tubing results in a shorter resonance wave and thus lower noise level.
I have a Kakimoto 92db:
It is 75mm straight through (with a silencer and silenced back box) It\'s very quiet on idle and at low revs but makes a very angry bark (I think it sounds like an old 70s muscle drag car) when under load. I have nowhere near as much power as you so I have no idea how suitable it might be. I can tell you that no-one who has heard it (other than me ) likes the sound of it.

Hey Chris
I have the Kakimoto R - exhaust on my Rx-7.
It is 80mm straight through. Sound is nice and deep but not too loud. (90dB up to slightly over 100dB on WOT + hot exhaust!)
Exhaust flow seems to be really nice. The Greddy titanium exhaust (also 80mm) which was on my Rx-7 before had no advantage in performance. But was a lot louder!
Keep in mind that you are pushing out 190hp more than My Rx-7 does. So maybe there could be a difference in performance. But idk.
+ The Kakimoto exhaust seems to keep the flames back a little bit better then the Greddy.
I just throw a few flames when I´m driving 270km/h on the autobahn and then go off the throttle:Thumbsup!
So you don´t have to have fear about a burning backend:Giggle
Good luck choosing the right Exhaust!
kind regards Marc
Many thanks for your information guys.
I would prefer to avoid having a mid silencer, if possible.
I do suffer from a burnt rear apron around the exhaust (I\'ve added an aluminium plate to offer some protection to the fibreglass).
Does anyone have experience of the HKS range ?
Is there a manufacturer, or type of exhaust that is not suitable for the RX7 ?
Thanks
Chris

that was my old back box! i loved the sound of it! the other half didnt!
making that power have you not thought of one of pips back box\'s?
very good sound not too loud and not too quiet
and most important lots of flow!

i got a kaki on my fc, only rear section n i love the sound of it!!! could do with being bit louder even though my gal can hear me come home when im round the corner (we live on 3rd floor also)
few others i met at london run also like the sound of it.
i know u got an fd, not sure how much diff it makes.
build your own, thats what a few of us have done, using 4 inch all the way through. The more free flow = more power. We all run 4" 100mm systems

Hi AshRX,
Did you go to someone like Powerflow to build the exhaust ?
I would certainly have to have a remap with a custom exhaust.
Thanks
Chris
i got reworx to make mine with Scratchies on here making a custom downpipe
