Title: Running Rich...
Post by: B.Martin on September 13, 2008, 08:00:49 PM
Now i know that the RX07 FC EGi runs pretty rich, BUT mine really does run rich, so rich it seems to flood the engine nearly everytime i drive. (i\'m aware that short journeys are not advised and that once turned on the engine needs to be warmed up before being turned off) I regually have to take out the fuel switch (under the drivers side dash) to get it to start up. It also tends to regually smell of fuel... Is there something wrong with my car ??

Thanks for anyhelp, and sorry for being a n00b >.<

Hmm that does sound rather rich lol when did you last change your spark plugs and air filter?

is it an EGI with over 100k on the clock

if so , my guess would be split injector seals ( or the injectors are leaking ) - have a search and see what you can come up with

if its gonna do it a lot - then rather than pulling the fuel switch - wire a dash switch into it - thats what i did on my egi

then when i had run the car , i parked it on the drive , flicked the switch to cut the fuel , once the rev started to splutter - turned the car off

that way it never flooded and started first time every time

Firstly thanks for the info. And yes the car has done 142k BUT the engine was re-built at 139k by WGT. Have to admin i havn\'t changed the plugs or airfilter so that wouldn\'t be a bad idea as i have no idea when it was last done. I shall try that first before trying to fit things to my dash! If this isn\'t the problem though and its the injector/ injector seals is this expensive where am i looking at buying the parts from ?

Thanks AGAIN.

arent you suppose to change the plugs after XXX from a rebuild anyways ?? - i would start there , and a air filter and fuel filter

that way you know that everything is sound

and the injectors - you should really have the flow tested and cleaned with any rebuild ( or so im lead to believe )

and the fuel cut switch could be ANYWHERE - stick it in the centre glove box - works as a cheap anti-theft device aswell - you cant steal it if it wont run :D

All this was probably done after the re-build, but i have brought it since. Soon as i get some money i\'ll do as suggested and go from there. Thanks for the advice.

just a thought but would a FCD make the engine run extra rich?
sorry to hi-jack the thread..
on start-up i think mine is quite rich also as the ezhaust smells of.. fuel quite a bit (thought maybe due to the FCD).
does the FCD add extra fuel at low revs or does it mainly add more fuel on high boost n allow higher boost pressure?
not too sure how they work.

if its a EGI then there is no FCD and there is no need for one ( its for the turbo ones only )

all the FCD does is fool the ecu into not cutting fuel to the back rotor at a set PSI - it clamps the voltage

would an engine be running rich due to having larger injectors than stock or i think prof said b4 that if you uprate the fuel pump then the enigne would run rich also?!?

Uprating a fuel pump without modding anything up to use that fuel could make the smell of fuel worse and dependant upon all the other fuel regs that the engine has then yes a pump could or might cause overfuelling.  Dont forget that putting larger injectors in does not necessary give more BHP.  If you chuck a load of fuel into the housing then you must have the right spark/ignition etc to efficiently burn the fuel/air mix, if you dont you will more than likely lose BHP and run rich if it cant all be burnt.  On the same side of the coin you have to have the increased volume of air to go with all this extra fuel to get the right mixture.
