Paypal it to me would be a good one:Giggle being serious you really need pics and current spec up so we know what your starting with also a clear indication of what you want the car to do and what you want from it.

engine is completely standard

so it\'s a blank canvas really.....would like over 350bhp ideally that\'s about it, for street use and maybe odd drag session!

assuming you are running a standard ecu get an apexi plus commander, uprated fuel pump (walbro 255L pretty good ) & uprate injectors so whatever power mods you put on should be safe, last thing you want is to run lean, probably up plugs to 9\'s all round if not already, decent brake pads so you stop better with extra power

Has this got to include rebuild ? otherwise big rad, after market ecu, fuel pump, up rated injectors, some form of boost control, de-cat, intercooler or V mount set up.

I\'d be giving most things i could a go myself, saving a chunk of cash, and then getting the hard bits done by Pip, so i got the satisfaction of doing as much as poss myself :)
If it\'s my only car i\'d be buying a runaround so i could take it off the road and fettle :)

Alternatively, i\'d just be doing a few reliability mods, then driving the ass off it on road and on track days, and spending it on petrol :)

If its not been rebuilt its cheaper to get it done before it blows, but if its a healthy engine just some simple mods and drive it. Rebuilds will take a fair chunk of money

Agree with what GSB has said!! A mate whent to a tuner and said I\'ve got 500 to spend...... the bill came to 498!!!

But seriously, do as much as possible yourself you can buy V mount kits which are a simple old out & new in..... you would save about 2 hours labor doing this & at probably £40 an hour that\'s 80, fit & mount the boost controller again labor saving! Fuel pump a blind monkey with 2 fingers could change, induction kit again a little fiddle to get at some of the clips but an easy job to do.

than all that\'s left for pip to do is the rebuild, at which point he can uprate the injectors fit the new turbos, Down pipe & decat then your good to go ;) rebuild would cost anything up to £2500 if your staying fairly stock & depending on what bits need replacing.

\\stock turbos would push you close to the 350 @ fly so uprating isn\'t esential!

Save it for your fuel bill at the rate this country\'s going.  Seriously though i\'d spend about 1K to 1.5K which would probably see you to the 350 mark (fuel pump, ecu, decat, etc), then put the rest away for the next rebuild.

what year RX-7 is this? 99 spec?

if not..i`d sell it for say 5/6k and buy a minter for about 8/9k which has ALL the work done already (i.e rebuild/single turbo).

Stick the spare 2/3k in an ISA.

My first ever rebuild was done by pip years back.  Basically a standard twin with blown water seal.  Asked for a rebuild with streetport.  Only additional thing that was replaced was the clutch and he fitted my apexi ecu (which I supplied).  My bill came to £5300, with mapping and the servicing that is needed for the run in period it left me no change from £6000.

Yes there\'s no doubt Pip is one of the best in his field.  It\'s just his price put me off ever having a rebuild done by him again.  Anyway, its quite a few rx7\'s later and im older and wiser.

I\'d day don\'t spend the 5k at once, take it in stages so you know what you really need. Stick maybe 1-2k into it to reach your 350bhp target with reliability then give it a good drive. Then maybe stick some cash into new bushes, new shocks etc for the handling. Then see where you are and what you\'re using the car for and what you want to improve.

If you need a rebuild then obviously get that done but as said above generally be aiming to do work yourself, saves you money first off but also means you get to know better how the car works and better able to diagnose any probs you might get in future.

:D

I\'d invest it and save some more until you\'ve doubled it. Then go the whole hog and go Single with vmount, rebuild, porting, clutch, ECU, fuel system etc.

5k is an awkward total in my opinion coz you could buy all the bits to go single and have them fitted, but then if your engine goes bang you\'ve not much left to rebuild it. If your not looking for massive power, why not just buy an Apexi, have it fitted and mapped, maybe decat and new tail for some extra grunt and save the rest for when rebuild time comes. This is all presuming your not going to do any of the work yourself, in which case ignore all of the above ! :Hammer

Give Pip a call, say u have 5k and u want the engine and car ligtly modified. He will get u sorted and wont even trick u on anything. He\'s abit more expensive then other ppl, but when u leave everything is top notch and u will be a happy boy.

So give him a call or go there and talk to him, and show him your car. He will sort out anything u want for the limit u have.

Ive used pip alot even tho i live in norway. probably dropped of something close to 15 000 £ there over the last 3 years :) And im gonna drop of more this winter on the 4 rotor pip is going to build :)

Ohh hehe did not see that u already left the car with pip :) Good choise :)
