Title: Question about intercooler hoses
Post by: Ada7 on September 12, 2008, 08:26:48 PM
I\'ve been playing around under my bonnet today fitting a new Greddy elbow and then trying to link up the pipes to the intercooler. I have a XSpower intercooler set up on a v-mount.
The extra pipe i got with the elbow is to long to join up....

...so i\'m going to get some other hose (a 90 degree hose reducer) and a small lengh of pipe. to join it like this...

Is the outlet on the intercooler smaller than the elbow... would i need a reducer? If so, what size would i need?
I would go out and measure it all now but it night time and i\'m scared of the dark :rollin

You can get a 90 degree reducer elbow (in blue) and then attach some straight pipe to the compression tube :) you just need to measure what the diameter is :)

Ok, maybe that wasn\'t so clear then (did make a meal out of asking an easy question :p) I want to know what diameter they are so i know what to order :D

No the rad is now under the intercooler. I didn\'t do the work for the V-mount, was like it when i bought the car but is very well done :D

What a great idea for the XS smic, Any idea whether this improves on the efficiency of the ic as i know this ic in smic form gets mixed reviews.

Neil, i dont no if it helps on the efficiency of it as it was already set up like this when i bought the car. Maybe some one who has the same intercooler but in a normal mount can help answer that :)

Will PM you najiru when i\'ve got it all sorted :D

Hey, there, chap! Dunno if you can get Superflex wire reinforced silicone pipe in a big enough diameter, but that would make it a lot easier gatting the bends from the IC to the elbow smooth and uniform than getting 90` elbows and trying to get them to make the right bend? I guess you\'d still need a reducer section as well, but it may be worth considering.

Also, if you\'d like a shiny ally hardpipe for the top intake hose circled in your purloined pic here, I\'ve a spare one you\'re welcome to have? Since you\'re putting in nice silicone red joiners, it\'d be easy to bung on, at least!

One step ahead of you Nik with the shiney induction pipe.... but thanks anyway.

Do you have a link or anything for the superflex pipes?

Next week i\'m going to start taking of the engine bits to polish them. Plenum, TB, crossover pipe etc :D:D

Oh yeah, looks nice, doesn\'t it! What a good idea of mine!:Giggle

I\'ll have a rummage for Supeflex pipe links, hang about....

John P, yeah, still got it! It\'s identical-looking to the nice shiny one in that photo Adam\'s just put up, so I imagine it\'d fit with HKS filters, but I\'m not 100%. It fits with my Apexis, and also  clearly fits Ada\'s Blitz, so should be fine. I\'ve only got the top pipe, though, the bottom bendy one I had didnt line up too well, so I had to buy another set and furkle  them together with a bit of persuasion and an Irish screwdriver lol to make one good one, hence the spare top pipe.

Cant remember what size I/D the cooler hoses are? Have a feeling its 70mm, but thats from memory. Looks like it may be tricky finding Superflex that big, but Viper Performanc go fairly large with it, and do say that they may be able to make bespoke stuff, could be worth a go....

SFS seem to do it in their wire reinforced range in really big diameters, though;

Or failing that, some wire reinforced hump hose connectors may prove to be of use...

If you still want a piece of straight pipe, I may be able to help...  I have a straight length of 75 mm ally pipe, plus some bent lengths too.  I\'m only over in Farnborough, so if you wanna pop over at the weekend, I\'m probably able to help you out...

Unless you have some gaskets you want to part with. Ones between the TB and plenum or the Plenum and LIM? :)
