what do you need to use this for?
its a 92 plate fd rx7
should not use a turbo timer on a rx7 mate! you should start it up and drive off straight away keeping off boost for 20mins or so untill it is warm. then for the last 10 mins of driving stay off boost and do not go in high revs, pull up and turn it off!
you car will not cool down when its just sitting there running! it heats up twice as fast with the intercooler getting heat soak and so on..
yh i realised that after i bought it, but mite aswel fit it nw. bt yes i will drive rather than rely on timer
ok no bother mate! would be better if you got it done at a proper garage as you have the bridge the ignition wires and so on.. :2Confused
yeah i shud really but id rather do it myself n learn, cant b that hard i installed my delimiter myself
yeah i do alot of stuff myself but i did not want to take a turbo timer on, as if you do a lil bit wrong, you car might be hellish easy to turn on and drive if you get what i mean!
if you take it steady for the last 5 mins or so, the turbo timer should reduce itself to about 10/20 seconds anyways...mine does.
It is useful in the event of motorway driving though, when you turn into the services its very easy to just switch the car straight off. Sitting at 80/90mph on a motorway and then hitting the services is the major reason why most turbo`s go tits up. People dont think they are "using" their turbo`s when just sat at a steady speed when in fact they are.
Thats what ive read anyways...im no expert on turbo`s lmao.
You could turn your engine straight off from motorway driving thats about as low as you will get your oil temp with the engine on. I can think of no reason ever to use a turbo timer.
ok i agree turbo timers are no good bt what happens if u r in a rush and have just been raggin it, do u just turn it off straight away, or let the turbo timer run and get the engine even hotter, or if like me always be late for work and drive around until it cools down?
But please will somebody tell me if in the pic the wiring is correct for an fd, if not i can then get a refund
I\'ve just had a new alarm fitted, and as part of the job the guy removed my turbo timer (after asking me :D)
basically, my timer had been installed such that it bypassed the old alarm! all a thief would have needed to do was remove the top of the unit (v.easy - it falls off!) and cross a wire - instant car start!
Oh - and apparently they\'re not legal in this country anyway (or so he said - and as he is an ex RAC guy that was familiar with performance cars (inc RX7!), i figure he probably knew what he was talking about...
