Title: Secondary Live Ignition Amp!
Post by: DMDRIFTING on September 08, 2008, 07:25:30 PM
Hello,

how do you run a secondary live and where from, for the Ignition Amplifier on an FD?

Much Appreciated

Can you be more specific with your question.

Sorry, right the power that is running to the Ignition Amplifier on my FD3S is weak, i am assuming its not getting full voltage due to slight break in original wire or other?

I understand that you can run a secondary/new live wire from the battery to the Ignition Amplifier giving full voltage, to aid and solve this problem.

How do i go about doing this?

Also i have a HKS Twin Spark, and the light on this is dim!

Any more advice with these tech problem?

You could always use the original positive cable to switch a relay for a fresh power supply using better wire.

Which wire are you trying change? Black with a white stripe?

do you have an alarm on your car?

I\'ve been informed its the black wire with the white stripe by Tim!

Does this wire run direct to the ecu or the battery?

The car has a Cobra Alarm on it, due to  a poor install it has been removed!

Not aware of how well it has been removed!

you tend to get crappy voltage to the coils uf the alarm has been wired into the ignition resulting in ign breakup and detonation

The alarm has been disconnected etc but i remember seeing the cobra unit still situated  under the glove  box.

Should i maybe remove this, along with all relevant wiring?

Strange this being disconnected but still effecting the live!

I\'m going to run a new live from the ignition barrel to the ignition amplifier will this be ok?

Could i run a secondary live from the fuel pump fuse line?

Can the secondary live be taken from any other live or will it affect/drain the voltage if you have two particular units running off the same live?

Many thanks

I dont really understand why you are trying to do this. But i will try and help. The power to the coils is a black wire with a white stripe. It comes from ignition switch anyway.
If you wanted you could just run a ignition switched relay, and run a wire as big as you want from the battery.
The wire in question terminates at a condenser right beside the igniter.

What I\'m trying to achieve is a more reliable and constant 12v running though the coils via the Ignition Amplifier!

The light on the HKS Twin Spark is dim, also had been suffering from a slight hesitation on load, on wot, after 15 mins of hard driving? Which I have traced to a possible break in the fuel pump live!

Have run a second live to the fuel pump to gain a good 12v and the hesitation seems to be gone but need to confirm will confirm after a long drive tomorrow.

Have been informed of people with similar hesitation problems on there fd and advised to run a secondary or new constant live 12v to the Ignition Amplifier to remedy this.

Just wish to confirm where to run the live from?

Many thanks for your time Dragon

All it is, is an Ignition live so either use a relay, or take it of an unused Ign live.
I generally us the Crane cams ign amps and they take a direct constant live form the battery, so nothing to worry about in that respect.

Ok superb thank you Dragon for your time!

I drove the FD3S to work yesterday, took it to the red line quite often as you would on track, the total journey was approx 1h20m and guess what??????

NO HESITATION WHAT SO EVER WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Many thanks all and hope this may help someone else!

P.s. Going to run a secondary \'Ignition Amplifier Live\' anyway in a few days when I get 5mins.
