Title: Stange things happening
Post by: rx7pat on September 06, 2008, 02:28:59 PM
Ok so swapped the engine out on the fc and all seems to be running fine..... but once warmed after a few mins i start to get smoke from the left side of the engine (drivers side)
Noticed today that the coolant pipes from the rear of the engine block to the TB and TB to the BAC and BAC to the water pump is still cold?

Seems to me there must be a blockage somewhere but not quite sure where or how?????

Any ideas would be great thanks, not sure if i can survive hearing my baby running but cant take her for a drive:3gears-rh

how long has the engine been standing? might be good to add some additive to get rid of any sediment and buildup.some of my pipes were totally blocked with white crap.
The pipe going to the BAC should be warm from the thermstat and then quite often are cold going from the BAC to Throttle housing. Take the BAC off and run a screwdriver down the metal tube, as thats all it is just a tube.  This is prone to getting blocked.  The other hose will come up deep down from top of rear housing but have never found this blocked, however most of the cold start and throttle body stuff will be.  Might be worth having a good cleanout by the sounds of things.

If they are blocked it should only affect the running, dont forget all this comes off if you get rid of the emission stuff.  If these are blocked then I wonder what the insides are like.  A good additive and flush will loosen it all up.

Take it idle and temps are good?
Is this S4 or S5

well getting there.... slowly! I ran a two part coolant flush through the engine and run lots of water though every coolant pipe i could find. which seems to have sorted the blockage out pipes nice and warm now, but before i go to far i still have a white smoke coming from the engine only once engine is warmed up. seems strange that all temps seem perfect (just under half way on the dash) and engine purs nicely.

any idea what temp the turbo should reach on the exshast side mine seems to clime past 350 dc. no idiot lights are showing. and engines been unused for prob a year max. tried to do a compression test but results where not accurate (not a rotory tester).

the engine its a 1991 turbo II but not sure what the diff is between s4 and s5 sorry stupid i know!

You need to put the shroud back around the fan If you haven\'t already. Otherwise Temps go through the roof apparently. looks nice and clean though.

I can\'t remember where I read abut it. Think it was on here. But I do remember It not being healthy for the cooling system/engine
