hi all ended up with the job off putting a rebuilt engine in a 93 rex, got it all in and have connected every thing, but now heres the problem when we started it, it smoked really bad :Hammer could this be down to engine rebuider putting oil in it.
as the bloke remembers them saying they put oil in there to stop the tips or rotors getting damaged in transport.
i thinking could this be the cause off the smoke as it is the smell off oil burning
Sounds like this will burn off,
My RX-4 was filled up with oil before it was laid up 30 years ago and it took quite a run before it cleaned itself out properly,
so do you think its ok to run the engine till it stops, only ran it for a second and it smoked really bad, filled the street up with smoke :Giggle
it started really easy so im thinking i can have got any thing wrong and i check every thing before we fired it up, and thanks for the fast reply clive :Thumbs-up
All rebuilt engines are covered in a layer of oil, stops metal on metal contact during build and gives some lubrication when first started, before oil has fully had chance to get round, cant see it being a problem, take it for a nice gentle run, should disappear
I had one of the rebuild videos once upon a time (Bruce Turrentine?). Advice was to start the engine, let it run, do not shut it down and expect it to smoke for a few minutes then it should gradually clear
Gary
yeah if its freshly rebuilt and all the aseembly lubricant is still in there, then you should try and keep it running for about 20-25 mins to let it all clear....if you shut it off immediately i wouldnt be surprised if your plugs are fouled and it wont restart
:Thumbsup! thanks guys
