I\'m getting one helluva smoke trail after I back off the throttle from 5-6Krpm. I\'ve done the water seal pressure test (thanks to Paul T-II who lent me the pressure tester) and now I know there\'s no water leak. It can\'t be fuel as I\'ve checked the settings on the Microtech LT8 ECU I\'m using. So I\'ve come to the conclusion that it\'s oil being burnt even though it isn\'t particulary blue smoke.
But I don\'t notice any smoke on WOT, even @ 7000rpm, only when I back off (queue James Bond style smoke screen!!). If I go WOT again the smoke stops! Why?
I\'m running a GT35/40 single turbo (on the WG spring still) and boost rises to 10psi max. I\'m getting plenty of power still, that\'s healthy isn\'t it? I just hope the turbo\'s not f**ked as well as the engine!
Anybody got ideas as to what\'s causing the oil to burn? My guess is the oil control rings on the rotors (from what I\'ve been reading).
I\'ve stopped driving it as I don\'t want to damage any other engine/turbo parts.
Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks,
Adrian
if its happening when you lift off then my guess is the turbo,
sorry mate

If you have a oil catch tank make sure the breather hose to it is not twisted. It will biuld up pressure if kinked and blow it out the turbo instead of putting it in the tank.
I haven\'t fitted the oil catch tank yet so the oil breather still goes into the inlet manifold (as std).
If it\'s a turbo problem and not the engine, at least it\'ll be cheaper than an engine rebuild! I\'ll have to take it over to Carl or Geff to get it checked over, so I can find out what needs replacing.
Thanks for the advice,
Adrian
Usually this type of problem is the Turbo, I THINK the reason is that under boost there is a lot of back pressure in the exhaust an boost in the inlet causing the seals in the turbo to seal well against the centre bearing housing where all the oil is. On over run, the engine causes masses of vacume in the inlet and this can draw oil through the seal and hence the smoke......
On a conventional turbo the rebuild is straight forward as it may only be the seals that need replacing and not the bearing etc, but the flash roller bearing that you have i think the whole bearing needs replacing............... on the bright side its still cheaper than an engine :D
I am not an expert, these are just my experiences.....:wave
mine did this when holding revs on about 6k then backing off the throttle
Was diagnosed as broken tip
