Title: Is there a gasket for the intake elbow?
Post by: lockwood77 on September 01, 2008, 11:15:31 AM
Having got my water injection working (somewhat intermittently...), I notice that is spits a bit of oily water out of the join between the elbow and whatever it attaches to (throttle body?)

That means that air is escaping, so I wondered whether there is a gasket or some sealant missing from the join? I notice that the next join along appears to have a metal gasket, should I have similar at the elbow join?

IIRC it has a rubber type of O ring...

Can you see it with everything in place, or only when the elbow is removed? I suspect mine is missing!

Only then the elbow is removed as it should sit in a groove if that makes sense?

Ah right, I\'ll whip it off and see what I can see then!

depending on the age of the car, the o ring really is quite crap at sealing, mainly cos the plastic elbow warps.  I found mine was leaking here too but found the elbow mating face not flat, so a quick sand down on a flat surface and it\'s ok now :D

Ah, my elbow is metal, is that not standard!? It doesn\'t look like a Greddy one etc.

Standard elbows were plastic matey... Just check the mating face on a flat surface, it\'s it\'s flat the o ring will work, if it\'s not then you can either have the surface machined or put some dare i say it liquid gasket or RTV sealant on :D

Ah right, I guess I have some benefit from a metal elbow then! Won\'t bother with a Greddy one now!

Yeah sits in a nice little groove :D  but if the mating surface isn\'t flat dont matter if the o ring is in good condition or not, it wont seal

I thought so - i just couldn\'t remember. So, whatever elbow you have, as long as you are running the standard TB, you should have an o ring

Cheers chaps, I\'d be surprised if it wasn\'t there, so it\'s probably knackered on mine.
