Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: Lum on August 28, 2008, 10:15:37 PM
Hi guys:Thumbsup!
Not been on here much since i swapped my FD for a Skyline:flamed
However i have decided to sell that post haste because a good mate of mine imports (mainly modified) cars from Japan. He picked this up from the dockstoday & seen as it\'s probably the most mental RX i\'ve ever seen i don\'t think i have any choice but to buy it.

It\'s an RS-R edition (pretty sure there\'s only 1 or 2 of these in the country)
and has a wide body kit (possibly RE-A) along with a genuine AD9 bonnet and a nice carbon kevlar spoiler.
It\'s clearly bridge ported judging by the sound of the engine!
It\'s running a T51 SPL turbo the biggest intercooler i\'ve ever seen, it has an additional fuel rail welded onto the lower inlet manifold just above the secondary rail.
It gets better....
Thats an HKS FULLY SEQUENTIAL gearbox! and it\'s completely mental!!
Combined with the most aggressive diff i\'ve ever experianced full throttle gearchanges are completely nuts!:yes
All the coilpacks have been removed from the engine bay & instead it has these in the place of back seats
(http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/lum90/GTGarageRX7s014.jpg)
It\'s also runs an Apexi power fc ASWELL AS an HKS Fcon ecu????
WTF??? I didn\'t even know that was possible! The power FC appears to be running a very old base map so the FCON must controlling the bulk of the engine map (along with the additional injectors)
It\'s also got S**t loads of gauges & controlers
(http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/lum90/GTGarageRX7s020.jpg)
along with some special anniversary dials?
This car is obviously a serious weapon and appears to have been drag raced in japan(http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u43/lum90/GTGarageRX7s019.jpg)
Any comments are welcomed along with any info on parts i may have missed or not noticed!
Is there anyway i cannot buy this??:yes

Oh yeah it\'s also got these...

Yeah i know mate! They\'d have to come straight off! Surely this has the spec to be one of the fastest FD\'s in the country doesn\'t it?

Is that a standard rad though ? The bonnet doesnt seem to fit well near the bumper.

But other than that it looks ace, really unusual bodykit.
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: AshRX on August 28, 2008, 10:29:23 PM
yeah it is standard. Cant see it running much boost. Get the rad changed mate
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: Lum on August 28, 2008, 10:32:18 PM
Yeah i thought the standard rad was a bit rubbish!
No idea about the power or boost level as we don\'t wanna drive it on too much boost till we\'ve checked the map & AFR\'s, however with it running both Power FC & FCon that\'s not gonna be as easy as it sounds lol

Check engine rebuild status and boost map, last thing you want is to buy it and then blow it on the way home.

Looks quite good, ECU\'s need tidying away and the lambo doors is a personal thing really, potentially very fast rx :Giggle

Anybody have any info on the Sequential box? I didn\'t realise HKS made one for an FD?

The Fcon is plugged in mate! (the red light is also flashing so looks like it\'s been locked)
The wiring\'s an absolute mess but they\'re both plugged in & doing something.
Is an FCon designed to run alongside a standard ECU?
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: Ed_RX7 on August 28, 2008, 10:42:44 PM
yes and they are pricey....around £5k.....if this has been used for drag mainly the std rad would be fine.....if it were track then a big no no......buy it coz if you dont i might just have to!!!
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: antnicuk on August 28, 2008, 10:43:04 PM
lambo doors are a big no no on an FD, but no for looks,  they should have some serious reinforcement as the FD chassis is very flimsey.  Thats why the have chassis braces underneath and a frame around the door windows.  Look at any other car in its class and they all have no metal frame work around the door glass.  Jack one corner of your fd up and open a door. It wont like shutting as the chassis will be twisted!  The door provides chassis rigidity,  by making the doors lambo style you loose a lot of that.

Looks like it needs a fair bit of money spending to get things right and as tidy as your old one.  The engine isnt worth that much if you dont know its history as it could last a week or a year.   The turbo and gearbox are the most valuable things on it if you like that sort of thing. Sounds like it would make a good basis for a track/drift/drag car but would need a lot of effort to make it a nice road car.

If its the right price and it ticks the boxes for you, then go for it,  only you can decide really mate.

Fcon is a piggyback, isn\'t it?
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: AshRX on August 28, 2008, 10:43:47 PM
yeah my F con is plugged into my original ecu to manage some things on the car like oil metering pumps etc, but the F Con controls all the timing fuelling and ignition. You can run the F Con as stand alone

its impossible to run 2 aftermarket ecu\'s i have been told. If you want to borrow my fcon monitor to check let me know mate

That may be very useful Ash cheers mate.
I\'m not even sure if it\'s for sale yet, my mate may be keeping it for some drag action!!

Let me know mate and ill run through how to use it to set it all up

If its locked and Japanease you might not be unable to unlock it. I know there are some that Re:Worx cant unlock as there arent many of us running Pro Gold.

Speak to Max and give him the serial number and version and he will be able to tell you
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!
Post by: antnicuk on August 28, 2008, 10:49:59 PM
they are a very important part of the car.  same as the windscreen.  Look how thin the roof on an fd is (thump it).  That and the floor is the only other thing holding the chassis from twisting without the doors. If you drive a turbo II convert with the roof down, you can feel the flex in the chassis.

Cheers for the help mate, do RE-worx map your FCon?
Regardless of whether i buy it or not we\'re gonna have to get the map checked over before giving it some!
Title: Awesome FD, should i buy it? Pics!

That is an early Kazama kit. Not as wide as Bens on the front due to the lamo doors and the wings being shaved down. The kit is worth a bit of dollar.

Having crashed one really quite sternly, I can assure you you want the nice, robust FD doors next to you when you do, geez! The rest of the car really doesn\'t put up with too much.

Car looks ok, but not awesome tbh. It is a nice spec (except the doors), but it seems quite unfinished in a few places, not sure I\'d want to own an ex-competition car with all the usual features (like vital bits of ECU wiring loom hanging out of its gusset lol) unless I was only using it for competitions myself. Doesn\'t lok the sorta thing you could pop up the shops for a pint of milk in!

what i meant by structural was not in the sense of safety. I would agree that they are an  important safety requirement!

I meant adding to the overall chassis stiffness and resistence agaisnt twisting.

Buy it!!!!!!!!!!

1) It has alot of bloody expensive stuff on it.
2) With a little personal adjustment and styling on certain things it will be one hell of a mean street car
3) You will kick yourself if you dont, Why? because for the price of that car it would cost you a hell of a lot more to make another FD to the same specs.
4) If you buy it with a rebuil in mind, New large alloy rad, and a clean up think of the awsome car you would have for the price.

Also to do with the panels behind the fender/door being cut up to fit the rail on most kits for the fd, it\'s not ideal!

Car looks great, just needs a few minor adjustments- more aggressive wheels & a darker paint job & it would be perfect :D.

U can\'t go wrong... depending on how much your getting it for, the parts alone are worth a bomb! The fact that it\'s an rs-r is quite nice too i suppose :cool.

You would be surprised, a door is designed to make a big A brace from the two front hinges to the Door catch, Basically the theory is the same as welding two bars in a v from the door hinges to the quarter.

Nice car, the kit has the other front Kazama fenders that blend back into the bodywork rather than the sticky out ones I have. My kit has been tweak to make it wider than the standard Kazama kit (heh why not eh)! But its still my favourite of the wide kits out there.

Your gay if you dont buy this.

What you\'ll probably find is that they\'ve upgraded the ecu from standard to apexi and probably binned off the standard ecu, then upgraded to f-con.  Leaving the Apexi to run bog standard things that the standard ecu would of controlled, and having the mapping done on the f-con.

I had a similar setup on a supra that was brought over.  Although I sold them both and just replaced it with a motec.

Seen a few cars use the PFC with F-Con Pro.  Think they do it so you can still view the info from the PFC commander. ie injector duty, knock etc.  So many quality HKS goodies on that car.

Then as soon as he\'s bored with it i\'ll buy it! :)
We\'re gonna get the car out  with the wideband on it this weekend hopfully & see what the AFR\'s are doing, hopefully with some decent fuel in (ie- race fuel) it will be pretty safe, then we can start winding up the boost and see what it can do:Giggle
