Title: 3rd Gen emission problems
Post by: dturpin on March 23, 2004, 03:40:29 PM
I have got a 93 3rd gen RX7 and it has failed the MOT on the emissions being to high,  can anyone give me a few ideas as to what it could be.
Also I want to fit a dump valve to it, does anyone know which ones are best suited to the car, and has anyone got one for sale?

Hello mate you would be better off listing your mods first and what the results were on the emissions as maybe teh mot centre gave it the wrong test.

I haven\'t got the test results to hand as the car is still in the garage.  The mods I have done are induction kit, and exhaust CAT back, so not a lot really.  What sort of test should they have done on it then?

a non cat test  which allows 3.5% co and I believe it\'s up to 1000ppm hc from the spec of your rx7 you should fly through. I suspect the done a cat test. If they don\'t believe you advise them to contact vehicle inspectorate who will tell them tat because it is pre-aug 95 it does not have to have a cat test & bob\'s your uncle.

Thanks mate for your help I will mention this to the garage and see what they say.
This is my first RX7 and i am a bit unsure about a few things could you give me any pointers.  What sort of oil do you recomend using in it and how often should it be changed.  Also have you got any ideas on what sort of dump valve (BOV) to use on it.

castrol 10w 40 mineral oil.
Alot of aftermarket dump valves leak and and no better than the stock one. The greddy one\'s seem to be a bit better but this is purely in my experience.
