Title: Beeping
Post by: Sooperkent on August 25, 2008, 01:48:32 PM
Hey guys, flame all you like but i tried to search and found nothing.

Now when at WOT and the car gets close to the max rev limit it beeps.
is this something that the previous owner installed? or is it a warning for something?

if anyone knows could you give me a heads up please as im worried it might mean the fuels running too lean or something.

thanks
kieran.

hee hee. Treat her mean, mate! If you ignore the beeping it reminds you to change up more obviously by going bang!

Actually, that\'s a good point, I\'ve never really thought about that before. What is the limiting factor on revs in a rotary engine?  In a piston engine it\'s obviously the limit of all the reciprocating mass of valves, rods and slugs that have to accelerate and stop at stupid speed several times a second, but a rotary has none of these things. Does it just run out of window for the chamber to fill quickly enough, or what?

Not sure but I was once told by a fellow who used to race rotarys that he took a trip to the USA. He went to some rotary place, unfortunatly I cannot recall where as this was 6 years ago. He said they had an NA engine on the test bed and were going to rev it till it ither poped, seased, flew apart or stoped reving. It got to 22000rpm and flew apart.

How true this is I dont know.

Yikes! :eek:I\'d love to hear one on a Nur-Spec with open mid pipe at 22000 rpm! I could die happy after that one!

Apparently on the RX8 the static gear in the rotor breaks up at 13000 rpm but all the clutch manufacteurers say you cannot exceed 10000rpm with the clutch or flywheel.  9000rpm is enough.

i think i pref the \'ding dong\' sound from an AE86 (for those who have watched initial d) than the the noise the fc makes when it remindes you to change up.
the buzz remindes me of electronic class back in school days lol

though only had it go off once im my fc. too scared of doing damage to my wankle lol

I think you can change at what revs it comes on, would come in handy if you dont want to go over certain revs :Typing

In theory I think there is no limit to how much a rotary can rev as long as the block and eccentric shaft can hold together?

You\'re limited by the forces you are generating at the tips of the rotor.  THe sort of heat you would be generating at that point would probably cause some interesting expansion issues too! :Typing

I took mine out at the weekend, and i think i\'m getting old: I\'m just too worried to take mine up that far! Furthest I took it was 7200rpm. I think i am going to get the screamer pipe plumbed back in. It makes it sound like everythings falling apart.

My rev limiter was set at 7.5k when it was mapped as it was running out of fuel at the top end :( so i barely ever hear the beeper :(
Time to sort the fuelling and get it remapped...

I look on that li\'l beep as a challenge! If I don\'t hear it at least once between each set of lights, I\'m doin something wrong. Manufacturers always build in a safety margin on these things anyway (I hope). For instance, the rev-light is set at a frankly pathetic 13,500 rpm on my bike, but it\'ll happily rev on till at least 15,000 before you hit the rev limiter ! I still can\'t get my head around how fast the little ol valves are moving at that rpm, but it doesn\'t stop me havin a bloody go at it :D!

The ding-dong is the you are over 112kph warning that comes in quite a few older Japanese cars, its to tell you that you are a bad man and that is very bad to exceed speed limits! ;)
