Ok can somone explane what "independent twin scrolling turbo" is on a 1989-1991 Turbo 2?
Its bugging me a bit becouse i thought it was basicly another name for a Divided Turbo but i have had a look at my old one and nothing jumps out at me?
I know its a bit of a Dumb Question but thats Life if i dont ask i wont find out.
Chris
it just means that there is 2 turbos that are independant of each other (ie one turbo doesnt rely on the other to spool up)!!
Belive it or not it only has one Turbo?
Chris
ok, it could mean that there is a twin blade set up (on compressor wheel) in the turbo.
just a guess, other than that wouldnt have a clue!!
yeah i would say it is two diferent pitches of blade on the same wheel, one works lower rpm than the other so you get longer power band. and the turbo is independant, it is on its own
I haven\'t heard the term \'Independant twin scrolling turbo\' before, but I believe you\'re refering to the \'Twin Scroll\' turbo system used on the S5.
It\'s basically just a divided exhaust with two seperate \'scrolls\' within the turbos exhaust side. This keeps the gasses from each housing seperate until they are leaving the turbo, which reduces turbulence which helps with flow. Also, by having two smaller \'scrolls\' the gasses will move at a higher velocity aiding spool up.
Hope that helps.
mazda developed a special turbo unit in conjunction with hitachi ,turbine blades are recontored to use the high impact effect of the exhaust gas and the housing is cast with two seperate chambers. the "twin scroll" design effectivly changes the exhaust chamber volume in responce to engine load and rpm
a valve either concentrates exhaust flow for quick response or opens up the entire housing for high total flow. theres much less compromise in the turbos design caracteristics, giving it much of the response and low range torque of a tiny turbocharger, in addition to the highspeed boost of a big free breathing unit.
Ok so its just a Devided Turbo.
I thought by the Name it my have been somthing more Complex.
Cheers
Chris
sounds complex enough to me :D
