Hi guys,
I\'m new to the fold/rotary but not new to car tuning and turbos :mmmm
I\'m looking at buying an RX7 and getting rid of my current motor !
I\'ve always loved them but the stories i have heard about the wankel did scare me away a bit but i\'m in need of some rwd action with a balanced chassis :Giggle I think its my time !!
I know nothing about them apart from i want a 3rd Gen one in black with an 7k budget (that enough ?)
What can you recommend and do you have a buyers guide that i can tuck into ?
Cheers
J
As a fairly new owner myself I suggest you spend a fair bit of time searching various threads on this very informative site.
I spent ages reading engine related threads because of the reputation these cars have rightly or wrongly.
Also before handing over the dosh get one of the reputable specialist on this site to check the car out for you regardless of the cost of an inspection it will be worth that i can assure you.
Hello mate
Welcome to the club
There is a very god RX7 specialist in Romford â€" Powergains Motor Sport.
Kerim is the man in the know there. When you look a car, take it to Powergains Motor Sport for an inspection â€" it will be worth every penny. Try and buy the car from the For Sale section here, most of us know the cars and their history. Do not buy anything of ebay as you may end up with a bad car….7k should get you an OK RX7
Are you after a single turbo conversion or a twin turbo?
Good luck any way
Regards.
Michaelb
what part of Essex you from mate as there are loads of us this way with them that can always look over one for you
7k you will get a rebuilt one with probably a small single turbo
as said above by Dave, check the threads on here and you will find everything you need to know on them
I\'m in romford guys,
I\'m not sure on single or twin turbo really, what are the main differences ?
btw i have never drivern one or been out in one but have sat in a few in the past..
So what models are there ? FD3S - RZ what others and whats the best ?
Michaelb - the one in your avatar looks very nice btw
The budget of 7k is for a standard one
Im only done road to you if you want to go out in mine. I run a big big single turbo but one of the Essex boys is running on twins still who will take you out if you want.
Twins are ok if you want power at early revs but run out of puff early on and tend to cause more problems going wrong with the car, ie, rats nest, heat soak, all the things connected with having twins. Also they are limited on power and you are looking at 340 - 350 bhp at flywheel max really on twins.
Single gets rid of all the problems of above. You remove the rats nest and other parts associated with it therefore making more space under the bonnet and therefore less heat. With single its down to how deep your pocket is for mods and how much power you want.
You say 7k, that will get you a mint standard TT FD. But 7kj will also get you a small single turbo. All depends where you want to go with the car.
Different types dont actually mean that much. Yes the RZ was one of the top models but only due to Recaros, suspension etc. The engine, gearbox etc was the same on all models apart from some had twin oil coolers and some had one. Some have different diffs to thers. Same ithe suspension, sunroof, leather interior, rear seats or bins. Type R seems to be the most available. I own a RS, which had bigger brakes as standard.
When you start modding if you chose too they all tuen into the same car anyway so model wont really play too much into it unless its a RZ as the interior is very desiarable.
Make sure its recent rebuild though with proof from the rebuilder. Should get you many miles of fun driving:Thumbsup!

Hi Thanks for the compliment re my car
As Ash said, on a twin you will get up to 350BHP of reliable power, more then that and you will run into problems especially with stock turbos which will not last much over 1bar of boost.
I run 350BHP with ported engine, note that I my opinion for street car round the town you may just have more fun in a well set up twin turbo, as the power comes in much quicker in the lower revs â€" well set up twins are very responsive and nippy.
Some single turbo set ups will experience a turbo lag but you will have to speak to single turbo owners to find out which single turbo make and model produces the above.
As Ash said, have a drive in both and see what you like…

hi and welcome.
i`ve owned 3 rexs. one uprated twin, one standard twin and one small/medium single turbo. and to be honest, the uprated twin turbo was the most fun aroud town and on the twistys.
ok they are more problematic but if you take it to a specialist and get them to check it all over. ( personally i`d get all the rats nest of hoses replaced with new viton ones, new check valves and you should have hassle free motoring from the twins)
99 % of the time problems with the turbos is down to split vaccum hoses in the rats nest or the solinoids sticking. 15 years of engine bay heat makes em go brittle and stick
welcome, is this jay who used to have a mk3 astra turbo or i am totally off track lol :p
like others have said, get them to help you out, they are all great guys on here, always wiling to help so im sure you will find a great car, weather single or twin.
Anyone around the uxbridge area be able to come view a car with me?
I\'ll cover your time, but could do with someone who has had a lot of experience with them/working on them. Also was looking to borrow a proper compression tester..
Thanks
7k may stretch you to a 99 spec car which will look similar to michealb\'s. The 99 specs should start flooding over from japan in 2009 so if you hold out you could probably get a decent one. Or the fleet of 99 specs could bring the prices of the older cars down which would mean you\'ll get a bargain. Thats if your prepared to wait though
Hi, welcome to the forum! I\'ve had mine for 6 years now and have had no major issues at all, mainly I believe due to the fact that I left it standard! I\'ve learnt a hell of a lot in that time and know my way around the car and engine really well.
I\'ve now decided to sell it on (weddings eh?!), so if you fancy a nice standard, late spec (with 16bit ecu and simplified \'rats nest\') RZ model - complete with Kevlar seats, bilstien suspension and larger brakes all round, check out my ad in the for sale section: http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48584 (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48584)
Oh and I\'m only in Maidstone if you do want to view it.:Thumbsup!

Not me mate, i\'ve got a TT :)
Thanks for all the offers guys and would love if someone could take me out so i can get a little more info in person as well..
If you pm me a mobile number we can sort something out as i\'m not really on here that often at the mo. (will change in time i guess)
FDRZRich - lovely motor mate and perfect colour but i\'ve still got my two cars to still shift first and just demodding one atm.
dthebuk - Thats some really useful info, i recon i can hold on till Jan no probs but i\'m itching already.
In terms of power i like the idea of twins as i\'m more of a driver and like to go on track days and don\'t really enjoy strip work. I could also be swayed but a single but i have to see really..:driving
Thanks alot guys you have been a great help and thanks for the warm welcome.. One more thing is there a list of good sites to look for imported cars ? I only know one..
