Hi all, looking for a very good intercooler to go into v mount. There are so many to choose and i have got sick of looking so can anyone recomend one, cost is no issue. I dont want a kit just the intercooler. The car runs about 310 atw but i will go large single soon. Thanks.
I think someone was selling a V mount in the for sale section the other day
here it is:

There are quite a few choices avaliable depending on which way you want to go with V-mount. If you want I can drop you a PM with our top three V-mounts.
I\'m deffinatly saving up for one soon! :)
Re:Worx v-mount all the way
With good ducting, eBay IC\'s make very good v-mounts :)
Good one for making the effort to make a kit - you can save soooo much :) and it\'s nowhere near as hard as people think :)
its just the quality of the intercoolers on ebay that im worried about.
i use a re-worx v-mount and its brilliant.....been using it with twins and the temps are very nice and low :-)
Hey fellow...
I can really really recommend the knight sports V-Mount system.
They have the perfect lineup for all things you´ll have to mess around when you will have a V-Mount.
Battery Mounting plate
Air groove intake for V-Mount system. (Man you´ll have some really nice cold air intake and gorgous turbo spoolup sound in your car with this!)
And about the Radiator / IC kit itself.
All I can say that. I think I have to start a thread soon. Title would be:
"please help. Water Temp is too cold!"
I think that tells it all!
:Thumbsup!
I know its not the cheapest kit.
But here the quality has its price!
People have been using eBay IC\'s with no problem at all. They are pretty much standard fitment on the s-body scene at the moment under various different brand names, but it\'s all the same core.
I\'ve been using a stock mount one in a V-mount for about 6 months and it works brilliantly at 0.9 bar on stock twins with a Koyo :)
cool, do you have any pics??
where did you get your koyo from as i may get one instead of using the standard rad as im worried about the hose clearances.
2fast2cool ebay FMIC cooler. I\'ll let you know how well it cools next week when I start running it in after my rebuild.
It\'s all properly ducted underneath too, with airflow being directed to where the intakes are.

I have a HUGE Forge IC which is fantastic, not sure if anyone uses them in a ready designed V-mount setup though, mine is a little different ;)
Matt.... not a bad set up there mate... but where are your filters going to sit as by the looks of it they are going to be pulling in hot air which isn\'t good for a rotary!
Jono

They sit there - which isn\'t totally ideal granted, but I do have ducting under the IC feeding them with fresh air, and will be making a \'heatshield\' just to shy them away from the turbos a bit more.
Pigeon on here has the same IC, but his filters seem directly over the turbo which I tried to avoid as much as possible

they look quite good quality, what rad did you use matt??
i really dont want to buy one and find out its no good as im on single so needs to be decent
Matt_K i was gonna buy this IC and do what you just did, could you please tell us if it works ok? does it cool properly? and where sis you get the brackets from? could you please post some pics of them? and some pics of the mounting please? this looks really nice and i just wanted to know how its been done.
cheers
I would say, as I always do. Revolution!
The kit comes with everything including cooler for the pas, no other kit does. And Knightsports have some dodgy routing for the rad in their latest kits.
The battery box from revolution beats the clamping from the Knightsports kit. And it gives you airfilters and Greddy elbow as well..
I have excelent temps all the time and the quality is second to none. All cores are made by ARC wich kind of speaks for itself.
whats the price of that revolution one got link?
It\'s on our homepage: http://www.neweraparts.com/Default.aspx?tabid=54&txtSearch=revolution&CategoryID=1&List=0&catpageindex=2&Level=1&ProductID=849
I spent a lot of research before choosing this kit, including visiting all the tuners in Japan looking close at their kits, as well as reading in Jap Mags.
Pic of PAS is from my car and I have a lot more if you wanna see.
Reread your post saying you don\'t want a whole kit. I would still go for the kit just to have everything sorted, then you can sell the filters as you won\'t need them. They also make a intercooler kit for singles but I don\'t know about the price or how long it would take to get a hold of one.
if i had the money i would of ordered one a while ago but i simply dont :(
Price GBP £2,645.06??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
compare to 300 quid + some time spending on fitting it in(talking about Matt_K\'s IC that looks just awesome)
no way :]
btw: dont know if you seen Carl Hayward\'s V-mount - 1850 fitted with battery relocation etc. and apparently works great!
im waiting for Matt_K\'s reply to my post :]
cheers
£2500 is a lot of cash for a v mount. I already have a Ron Davis racing rad which i want to use and am prob going for a forge intercooler. My father can alter any pipes and do the welding if needed which is why i didnt want to spend all that money on a kit. Thanks for all the replies.
Sickboy: Do you get all the parts of the Revolution kit in the £300 one?
davyv: Fair enough. There could be a possibillity in just sorting the IC part of the kit as I know they make them. You can\'t get a better one quality wise., and the piping runs as for a single. Feel I should let Lil-Steve do it if you are interested as he seems to be involved with newera here advertisment wise. :)
My car\'s not on the road till Monday (waiting on the 1st to tax it and take it off SORN) so to be brutally honest about what we\'ve done with the v-mount - I honestly don\'t know if it\'s going to work yet. For all I know I might have to rip it all out again. I\'ll certainly update with my results anyway. I have to say though for all the idling it\'s done on the driveway since the first startup of the rebuild it\'s not had any heatsoak or high temps.
I bought the kit off ebay for a best offer of £229 (don\'t buy it now if you do. He always accepts lower if available) and it came with a load of brackets, pipes, clamps to mount it in the FMIC position. I\'ve not bought anything extra to mount it V-mount, just cut the pipes into a way they\'ll fit, and cut down a couple of brackets to mount it at the sides / front. These aren\'t the final products tho as if it works and nothing needs changing, i\'ll fab up some proper bits that look neater and made from thicker steel.
The ducting underneath is all custom however, sides and back to stop air escaping with a little side bit to channel air to the newly placed intakes. I work afor an engineering company so have access to everything I need to fab stuff though. Plus a father who\'s worked as a time server plater, welder and foreman :D
The IC is virtually sat on the chassis legs. Raised up half inch, and underneath I\'ve lined the chassis legs and IC with high grade water / heat / fuel & oil resistant sticky foam strips to cushion any potential movement and stop chafing
You can see here below how it\'s fitted. Maybe not the neatest yet, but as said - if it works I\'ll fab something more permanent and better looking.

It\'s quite alot of work. Buying a kit would have been far far easier and hell - it might even work more efficiently, but we\'ve rebuilt the engine ourselves so why not have a crack at eveything else. If it works, I\'ve saved money, learnt something new and call me big headed have the best feeling of satisfaction!
300 quid includes IC all the pipes, brackets ,couplers:

all u need is make some brackets and find the way to fit it as v-mount (thats why i asked matt to post some more pics/info)
most of us already got rads and intakes(i got all brand new so in my case it would be waste of money..
just noticed ur last post Matt, thx for the info, p[lease keep us updated as id like to know how it works :) if it does , then it will be my next thing to do :]
If you could choose just the intercooler for v mount , which one would you all choose .

First 100 miles of the run-in, while in no way conclusive as I\'m not using any boost and it\'s all under 3000rpm, it\'s still pleasing. Varying speeds and traffic conditions.
I\'ve not had more than 22 degrees on the open road. This morning coming to work It was a rock steady 19 degrees for the whole 21 mile journey. The highest I\'ve seen is 29 on start up from a 10 minute rest at the shell fuel station which obviously will be the heatsoak from the rad below. Going through the center of town it dropped steadily to 24, then again to 22 by the time I got home (5 miles)
I\'ll be interested to see how it handles boost and the heat generated, but i\'ll update then when I start upping the revs.
cool, sounds like its working well, what kind of spec is the engine?? my only worry is that it wont cope with 1 bar and single turbo
Stock ports, Knightsports RF420 twins, No air pump, Apexi filters, unsilenced front and de-cat, blitz nur rear.
Will be running .8 bar when run in.
nice one so far mate, keep us posted, id like to know what is gonna be like when u rag it...:
any updates guys, could really do with ordering a intercooler asap :D
same here....
My advice is RE:worx V mount.
It\'s about £950 for the cores. The thing I think that is better than a lot of V mounts is the intercooler sits in a more upright position and so does not suffer from as high intakes as some but also runs very low water temps.
I\'ve got one and I think it\'s one of the best mods I\'ve done to my car.
do you have any pictures of it, a few would be really good :D
Here\'s a couple - not great but hopefully will give you an idea:Thumbs-up

yeh, thanks for the pics, seen a couple mounted like that before and always wondered what angle the rad is mounted at.
looking at them pics it almost seems vertical??
and no ducting?
Quote from: sickboy2345;542868and no ducting?
Or room for an induction kit :3Confused? I\'d be interested to see what that looked like finished?
The radiator is at a shallow angle but trust me water temps never go over 80 degrees in normal driving and not more than high 80s on track.
There\'s no needs for any ducting temps-wise. Max Taylor runs this same V Mount on his Nippon Challenge car and Ring car with no probs.
I\'ve got an HKS Super Power Flow on there no worries - there\'s bags of space!!
