Howdie - I\'m hoping someone has done something like this before and can advise me:
I\'ve got an EGi with a great shell and a TII with a rusty shell
My plan was to swap the TII engine into the EGi, but my mate is convinced it\'s easier to sort the rust on the TII (Hole in floor, crusty around sunroof/front screen and on rear of body)
We have access to an engine crane, welding equipment, etc. I\'m just trying to figure out the best course of action.
Can anyone tell me what bits are different? I.e, are the brakes the same? What about wiring, can I just swap ECUs? etc, etc.
EGi is \'89 "F" and TII is 91 "H" reg. All advice gratefully received :god
Brakes etc are the same (unless you\'re TII has ABS and you want to port that over to the TII)
You will need:
Engine
Gearbox
Diff
Loom
ECU
Fuel pump
Bonnet
Dashboard
And some other bits I\'ve no doubt forgotten! :wave
would it not be easier to move the sunroof from the egi to the tII and maybe look at getting the rust repaired? surely it would take less work and tII\'s do look better than egi\'s
:D
Cheers for the responses guys.
dthebuk> That\'s what my mate reckons. Both sunroofs are rusty, but EGi has literally NO rust anywhere. TII has been sat for a while (possibly a couple of years) and it shows - holes in the floor, really rusty around the top of the windscreen, only has one sideskirt, lots of trim missing, etc. EGi was my daily-driver until a couple of months ago and everything works, even the elec sunroof, cruise control, etc.
The plan for either car is simply to strip it and track/drift it but I still want it to be \'nice\'.
I\'d like to avoid removing the wiring loom from the TII :eek I thought they\'d almost certainly be different.
Is the rear axle different or is it just the diff?
Having a rusted shell would be of no use and if you were to look even harder you will most definately find a lot more. I have reloomed these cars and its not too big a deal but you would have rip the entire inside out which may take half a day inc the dash. This will give you the best opportunity to clean and paint anything internally and check for problems. Brett has already displayed the list that has to be swopped over. At least at the end of it you will have a good TII car but in a EGI shell.
However you could get some good BHP figures from a NA and I would buy the TII lump as long as the compression is good. If I was going to track day the car then I for one would want a seriously sound car. Where these cars rust is not perhaps in the best of places, especially if you have rust at the front inner arches where the subframe attaches to the shell. As a matter of interest are these UK cars? bet the TII is. I have only ever scrapped UK cars as they go rotten really nastily.
On the other hand out of all of this, it would still be nice to recover both cars, even if it is only to the track.
ah i didn\'t realise the rust is so bad. And to make matters worse, the sunroof is probably more rusted that you think. Apparently when it bubbles, thats just rust fromt he inside surfacing...
