any ideas??
What sort of horsepower are you expecting, it should take about 30-40% over stock maximum. So about 450fwhp I would say maybe a little more.

Hi Karl,
We know that with this clutch unless your doing lots of drag racing it will handle twin turbo and very small single Turbos but I very much doubt it will handle yours,
conflicting views
when i pulled the engine out it looks like a stock clutch was in there and was coping fine but i might as well change it while its out.
i think i will be around or just over 450fwhp.
is it not the torque figures that will effect the clutch more than horse power?
Sorry didn\'t see Steve\'s post,
We have quite a few 400 FWHP cars out there on this clutch but doubt coping with any more power,
If you take the car at 280 stock add the 40% extra, in theory you end up with 392
A hell of a lot will depend on how you drive as well, drive it like Miss Daisy and dont slam the throttle and a stock clutch will be fine !,
Personaly I feel you should really consider having a look at a Hyper single which being honest is cheaper from Newera that us.
Hope this helps
that is true rob but the way i see it is, if i had the same torque as standard but 450fwhp i dont think it would last that long lol
thanks clive,
what kind of price am i looking at for a hyper single. £700 ish??
As Clive says depending on how you drive depends on how long a clutch lasts, if you do the traffic light GP on a regular basis or intend to drag the car it won\'t last.
The stock mazda clutch will handle more than 280hp, as with all cars there is quite a bit of slack in most parts. You wouldn\'t knife edge engineer a clutch to be exctly on the cars limit or they would fail with a bit of hard driving. At an extra 40% I think you\'d be looking at a maximum of 450hp @ flywheel, sorry I didn\'t make that clear.
450hp would be pushing it, it will hold the pressure but if you drive it hard it and launch it hard will give up the ghost pretty quickly esp. on launch where there is a lot of slipage.
I agree with Clive you are looking at a hyper single or hyper single carbon if you are looking for a similar to stock feel. Plus with both of them you get a lightend flywheel to improve response and accelration.:Thumbs-up
If you want Karl I can drop you a PM with a quote for a hyper single.
That clutch isn\'t uprated to take 40% more power, it has 40% more clamping pressure. Don\'t know what it will actualy take but was under the understanding it was only really good for twins.

Hyper single is on this link and comes out at £800 delivered,

However be warned this is a "Race" clutch that takes a little mastering to pull away with with quite a few more revs than normal plus you will need to buy a counterballence weight to hold any of the light flywheels on including the Hyper,
For the power your running you may be better off with a Centerforce clutch seen on the link below as this will save you money and you will still pull away in traffic like the standard clutch will, plus you keep your flywheel so no need to buy the counterballence weight

Hope this helps
i am not fussed at how the clutch feels, just want it to hold the power and i do tend to drive the car hard and do a bit of launching at the strip etc.
all prices are welcome either PM or this thread :)
ive never heard of centreforce, what are they rated at??
also how much is a counter balance going to cost as well??
I personally wouldn\'t buy an Excedy clutch off ebay as there have been a lot of cheap chinese copys that have been sold as genuine, even the authentic sellers couldn\'t tell the difference, but they fail as soon as u use them so just be careful
Mich never heard that one yet but it would not surprise me,
I have documented elsewhere how Exedy told me they stopped supplying ACT after ACT were playing with Exedy standard clutches, passing them off as there own after altering them and they were failing,
Karl as we are official Exedy distributors or clutches are genuine units but as Mich says god knows what the e-bay ones are.
Now I know your Dragging the Exedy will be better than the American Centerforce and as for the weight from memory they are £124 plus vat however if you buy a Hyper single via the link above we will throw in the counter balance weight.
There have been a few threads raised in other clubs like here:

I use an Exedy twin plate carbon fiber D core with light weight flywheel. Not sure how much they cost over there but if you every wanted to increase your boost this clutch can take it. I use this clutch for daily driving & racing. Its insanely smooth for the street.
As said above you do need more revs to take off but the clutch dose not grab like those puck setups do. This clutch is the best you can get. The D stands for Damper...it helps protect your drive line on hard launches. Another cool thing about this clutch is that the hotter it gets the more it grips. Smooth for the street & designed for racing. If I remeber correctly it can handel over 650hp.
They cost about $3000 NZ so I guess about 1,150 GBP.....well worth the money.
cheers clive,
will get my self organized and most probably order one :)
dr rotor, well worth the money if you have it :p lol
Haaa so true.
