Post by: Steve-Q on August 21, 2008, 11:02:58 AM
Hi all,

I need your help on a new clutch, Im running a FD3s on around 300bhp, with a limited slip diff and im taking her to Ty Croes race track in anglesea next month, Im still on a stock clutch so im thinking of putting something a bit stronger in but want to know which is gonna be the best clutch to buy???

plus Dwayne (from LindopMotorSport ) is going mental with his Mk1 Rx7 to try and beet me and we can\'t be having that, soft git shouldn\'t have built my engine so good.

I would have thought that at only 300bhp a stock clutch will be fine. Generally track work is not that hard on clutches compared to drag racing.

If you are racing you might want to look at a race clutch they tend to be a lot smaller and lighter to help reduce the rotational mass. This gives a faster reving and more responsive engine.

If you don\'t want to go to mad it might be worth looking at putting a lightweight flywheel in there while you replace the stock clutch. This give some of the above benefits but with a completely stock clutch holding power and engagement.

Personally I\'ve just gone with a twin plate carbon clutch as it weighs about the same as a small kitten and has almost stock drivability. The rev match down shift and quick stabs of throttle are going to be awesome. :D

Is there such thing as too responsive? :Giggle

Feel free to drop me a PM if you fancy anything!

I was definatly thinking along the lines of a carbon clutch, I would cry if i went all the way to Anglsea and the clutch died on the day. im not 100% sure of how much lifes left in it.

No not yet mate, complications keep holding us up, we will be going soon tho, that should get a few more ponnies out the engine. did you ever hear from that rolling road people??? they said there was prizes for the top in class??? I work out what was up with mine on the rolling road it was on boosting 0.8, one of the jubile clips was nakered and was leaking boost from the intecooler :xconfused so Ive bought a front mount, (even tho a new clip wouldda been the sensiable thing to do) .
