Title: Oh F**K I love FD\'s
Post by: Rotary_Menace on August 18, 2008, 03:58:43 PM
So after working my arse off for studying Cisco exams, i got me a new job, and with it more ££££ and there for a FD :driving

And oh god i bloody love the thing. My GF is actually concerned i like it more than her :rollin at which point i have to remind here i wanted one since i was 15 and the room goes silent.
It’s a 95 Type R Bathurst

And what a rush when driving, it’s mental.

i think the first thing i am going to buy when i can afford it (as I’m now completely broke) is Race-Logics TC system, as i ve already had the rear end twitch when testing out my standing start :Nono!

Now its completely factory except for a few cosmetic changes and Cusco suspension. It’s also has had a rebuilt approx 14,000 miles ago.

There’s a few little cosmetics that i need to sort but i think it is the most gorgeous car on the planet, it gets people looking at it where ever i go - lovin it :2Rolleyes

A few questions:

Temp, what kind of oil temp should i be getting, and aiming to hit before i can turn the engine off? My guiding rule atm is to drive below circa 3k rpm for the last 10 minutes of my journey then turn it completely off.

Water temp, usually staying between below 80 on long steady journeys, 80 - 90 when having a little bit of fun. but when stuck in traffic hitting just under 100, is this ok.

Anyone from around Leicester go track daying? i need to do one, i love this car but feel it needs to be on a track! ideally a beginner friendly track?

Everything looks and sounds about right in what your saying mate, so keep doing what your doing. Just dont bother with the TC!!! Temps look ok too! Just dont be tempted to start the car first thing in a morning and let it sit there warming up. You need to start and drive off to warm the transmission, brakes up too!

Fitting the TC you do run the risk of blowing the engine if not fitted correctly becareful, you are better off making sure you have good rubber on the wheels and the bushes and suspension are in good nic therefore it should not twitch but feel very planted

I echo what blitzboy said, I purchased Racelogic TC a while ago for one of my other cars; for the price I paid it made little or no sodding difference.  Use the money on decent tyres.

lol basingstoke, now thats where my h/o is! what company do you work for? though mine mainly deals with WWP and juniper. i\'ve just nailed the BSCI and now working on, my BCMSN which is looking much easier, though getting free time to study is my No1 opponent.

I was under the impression what they cut the ingintion, therefor no spark? I have still got japanese tyres on it, though i will have to drive carefully till i can afford some new ones. I think my suspention is fine, feels like a proper sports car :wiggle , really quite funny i never even considered anything else since i was 15, only had a look round 2 in my life, never sat in one, dont care that people in the back seats are cramped (if you dont like it.. Walk!) and i also dont care that im petrified when i see rain clouds (well maybe a little)

They come highly praised from RX7club, well the little information i could find, im thinking more of safty, its hard to be 100% focused and not become careless for a split second.

well when i first got my FD i had jap tyres on it and the back end use to be out all over the place, i then put some cheap uk tyres on it (kumho i think) and they made a massive difference much better handling and the back end not all over the place.  You will find there are hardly any rx7\'s with TC, even the big power ones dont run any TC

I work for Global Crossing - We deal with Juniper also for our core mainly though... We mainly look after all UK goverment sites from prisions to courts and goverment buildings world wide... and also things like the national lottery, and a few UK ISP\'s like Tiscalli etc...

Who do you work for??

Think I\'ll just stick with my Word and Excell !!!

Nice car on the other hand and not sure why those chaps in the US want traction control anyway.... straight wide roads, dryer conditions than the UK (most parts anyway) crappy speed limits and tonnes of cops to stop you speeding!!

Well tbh it\'s not sliding about alot only when i was giving it the beans or so to speak, well i think i will not bother then and save it. Ps added you to facebook.

Well it depends on what you do, support, installations, or consulting/design and location is also a big factor, which ever it is CCNA/CCNP covers alot of network principles. It is best to specialise in voice, security, or design which i intend to do, professionals can earn 60+ and then if you have the brains then are always expert levels. I would like to get my NP/DP and be on around 30.

cool, good luck mate...

and get those Jap tyres changed asap, not only are they dangerous in the wet (and the dry!) but i think they\'re illegal in the UK too... will fail and MOT (no E mark or something) and well, not nearly good enough for UK roads...

I\'m a bit local :) Just down the M69 below Coventry, and do a few trackdays - next one is Curborough next week in fact :D

Looks like a really nice car you have there :) I\'m still running JDM tyres, have been for 6 months (Car passed it\'s post import MOT with them ;)) and they are terrible. I\'m TRYING to kill them but they just won\'t die :( Big smokey burnouts under bridges leave not a trace, and certainly don\'t reduce the amount of rubber :( I\'ve got a barrel load of tyres to replace them i just want to get my money\'s worth out of these :D I tihnk they may be made with the steel belting on the outside, and the rubber on the inside...

I\'m very curiosu to hear the logic behind people\'s slating of RLTC - i\'ve not heard a bad thing? You can wire them up to cut either fuel or spark, most people do the latter as far as i\'m aware.

Curborough could you tell me what i need to go to get involved in that?, the BMMC? definitely something i would like to do!

Thanks mate, it\'s taken me a while to one, been floating round here for years! My car also passed its MOT with jap tyres, does seem a waste to just throw them away however it is my safety i suppose, will have to save as i reckon they wont be cheap!

Do u know alot of people running RCTC? the only way to really judge is to get in a car with it off then on i reckon!

Cheers Neil

I\'m afraid It\'s an SXOC thing and it\'s full up :( But there will be more :)

The only people I know running RLTC are running it on Supra\'s,  R-Bodies, and S-bodies, but nothing on a rotary - but I\'m genuinely curious about why it\'s not good fo rthe car if it\'s set to cut spark?
