Title: Quick cat question
Post by: neil_jdmr on August 15, 2008, 02:01:40 PM
Went to fit my spare cat today as part of my fault elimination process and found some nugget has welded up the hole where the heat sensor goes:2Mad.

is it safe to fit and just tie up the sensor for testing purposes? I realise i will get the heat light on but is that it?

Also planning on taking it to work tonight to drill it out but does anyone know what size hole or what holds the sensor in?  It fits in a rectangular peice of metal which is held to the the cat with two pieces of 6mm threaded bar and two 10mm nuts but is the sensor threaded or anything??

any help please as going back tomorrow determined to get it swapped over.

What ECU do you have?  If u\'ve got an Apexi you should be okay.  Standard ECU will show the heat light (unless you ground the sensor).  Car will work fine.

Hi Neil
I have a standard cat in the garage that I don\'t need (won\'t fit my exhaust now anyway). You\'re welcome to it for free if that\'ll help

Thanks anyway gary but got my cat fitted today without problem and found my original was dead but STILL got same issue with boost dropping off after 5k.

Effing trashed.

After talking to the experts i honestly dont know what to try next??

since im getting the transition onto the second turbo that rules out all solenoids etc and getting perect boost up until 5k leaks are also ruled out also the problem is the same in any gear and always at the same rpm.

Also while under it i checked the flap on the down pipe which all seem tip top.

Im totally stumped, Looks like ive got a bullet to bite

Neil, might be an idea to swap your ecu and try that (maybe Rob or Steven if they\'re on standard ecu\'s?). It\'s a quick 5 min swap which will rule out your ecu as a potential problem
