i always knew the tyres that came with my wheels were rubbish but running down the strip really confirmed it, they are leathal in the wet and i have a track day in November which if it rains will be pointless going to so its time for some new rubber
i had the toyo\'s on the rear of my car before changing wheels and was impressed with them in the wet and dry, i used to work for goodyear and had GSD3\'s on my show van (ok it wasnt quick but it would go round roundabouts very well!) not tried the Yoko\'s but hear they are good, although the car is a second car with mainly track and drag in mind i dont want to die when it rains!
obviously good wear is a facter but can live with it as long as they last at least 20k
thanks
Mark
Goodyear Toyo Yoko
20k is a big ask from a performance tyre! Anything hard enough to last that long is not going to be soft enough to offer you decent grip really.
If you are doing track work i\'d avoid the GSD3 - they tend to melt and marble on track - Toyo\'s ar e bit better buy not much.
Flaken 452\'sa re quite good all-rounders though.

i can live with not doing the mileage just plucked 20k from the air really as i tend to do 5k a year

Auto express did a fairly extensive test of tyres a while back and you can access the test through the site. I now have Toyo\'s all round and have not had a problem to date, but haven\'t used the car much in the rain but the test concluded Toyo T1r\'s were good in the rain.

just been reading some good reviews about the Falkens and at £80 a tyre there is a big diffference
I liked Goodyear when I had them, but have to say I\'m a massive convert to the Toyo\'s. Much nicer in all conditions. Nowt wrong with the Goodyears, just the Toyos are... better. From what I gather, Falken are fine up to a point but tend to go completely and utterly without warning when they reach their limit. Not personal experience, but comes from my brother-in-law who has raced all over the world and currently organises courtesy events for F1 meetings and such, so fair to say I trust his opinion! T1R ftw!
I have the Toyos front and rear and I\'m happy with them. They gave loads of grip around Brands, and were nice and progressive when they did start to slide... BUT they did melt a fair bit after two sessions of about 15 laps. I was pushing pretty hard though, and I would still recommend them. Now that the damaged surface has scrubbed off they still have plenty of tread left.
Cheers,
Chris.

Its true what he says about the GSD3....I have done over 200laps on a set of GSD3 over a year long period on the same track. They last realy well. It was strange how much rubber came off but there always seemed to be more left. They worked ok with stock suspension untill I changed to coilovers then the car began to slide lateraly on some corners. They are very predictabel tyres & are good in the wet. I still use them for street driving. I cannot say anything about the other tyres as I have only ever used GSD3 and now Hankook Z211 semi-slick for track use.
The Z211 are going out of stock as they have stoped production...they are dirt cheap at the moment...you might be abel to get a set in the UK for a good price. If you are going to track & drag alot you might as well.
Here they go for around $230NZ each for a 17" x 225 but is equivelant to the width of a normal tyre of 245 size. Some Semis are funny like that. Its because of the hard walls that dont allow so much flex.
If you find some & decide to use them....depending on the day and how hot the track surface is start on about 26psi cold...they should build up to 30-31psi....33psi and up, hot they start to slide as I have learnt. Drive to the track on them to scuff them up or ask your tyre place to scuff them if they have a machine.
Scuffing the tyre increases the life of the tyre & gets the new silicone top layer off. Helps with grip & gives it the first heat cycle. I recomend doing that with the normal street tyres too....but just drive on a rough road with them dont stick them on the machine....lol unless you want to.
thanks all FYI Toyo\'s are going on tomorrow :Laugh

has anyone tried out the Toyo R1R\'s yet????? are they even out yet??
I had a T1R\'s and T1S\'s on my old Civic CRX. Bags of stick and never a jot of understeer! But then i drive like an old lady!
Give Falkens a miss for high performance, I totally agree with the comment about them just loosing the grip at some point, I think they overheat with the sideways action you can get in a FD on track.
Toyos sound like they have been good for lots of people. Personally I love Yokohamas but they\'re not cheap and probably wear the quickest.
id say yokos all day long but very soft .toyos have tryed to kill me before not liking them at all
id say goodyear always seem good allround tyre but if i had the money yokos
I am going for T1Rs, http://www.blackcircles.com/ (http://www.blackcircles.com/) is the place to get them mate.
I got a quote of £79 for 235/45/17 and £95 for 255/40/17 tyres. Cheapest by a long shot. Obviously this is mail order price and there is a £12 delivery charge but thats for the lot. Then just get a local wheel place to fit.
went with toyo\'s some time ago they have seen some drag racing and a track day and held up well:Thumbsup!
Camskill had 225/45/17 Toyos for just over 60 quid a piece a few weeks back - got some in my loft waiting to go on :)
Yoko A048s for me all the way!!!
Grip levels are supreme :3gears-lh On the down side they do wear quite quickly but thats just the price you have to pay.
Normally source mine from Elite Direct in Rainham, Essex.
With my toyo\'s i found on track once they are very warm the sidewalls go quite soft which although you dont loose grip do make the car move around quite a bit!
I\'ve had Toyo T1Rs, and am now on Yoko Parada Spec2s... I rate them both very highly, but the paradas were cheaper (this time round) and look sooooo sexy...I don\'t know if they grip better, or something inside me tells me they do ;)
T1Rs are very good road tyres but as Rob mentioned they don\'t have a particularly stiff side wall for track work but stick to 5 lap sessions and they be fine. The two Falken tryres I\'ve had 512 and 912 are again good road tyres but will fade earlier than the Toyos on track maybe even spirited road driving.
Kumho KU31 (hard to get now) or KH39s are quite similar to the T1Rs and usually a similar price.
Not mentioned yet, but my FD rolls on Maxxis MA-Z1 Victra\'s, and I think there brilliant. Good grip in the wet, and supergrippy when dry.
I\'ve used them for trackdays too, and when they\'re hot, on track, they offer splendid grip. I love them!!
michelin pilot sport, the best tyres i have ever used
I have used Toyo T-1R before on my old civic and found the side wall are too soft but grip wise is very good in dry and wet... Now on the fd I have Bridgestone Protenza RE050a and they are brilliant, side wall is so much harder so no flex when under hard cornering... Down side is that the tyre has bad noise level... But never mind that the exhaust will cover all that ;-)
I vote Tokyo, and I work for Goodyear :/
Pirelli P-Zeros they\'re amazing
I chose the toyo\'s but that because I simply started with them on all previous cars and never looked elsewhere.
