Looks well \'ard, but you\'re gonna wear out your shoes pretty quick if you stay with that spoiler mount technique! :chat

Oops, ignore me, missed your second post before! Looks excellent, I love black FCs

very nice.. that spoiler suits the fc also. seldom see many high spoilers on fc as they dont usually look that nice.
maybe u should consider the knightsport supercharger once u done. make it a bit more pokey

It\'s going to be a nice motor - and probably quite a suprise for someone when they realise it\'s not a stock EGI ! :spank:yes

is that a TII front bumper+lip? looks awsome
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on August 12, 2008, 08:14:00 PM
Well she was an egi & in need of a rebuild so straight away looking at 2k for the rebuild, so searched about to see what 2k could get me, found the engine & 6 speed box for 1k, so went for it also thout it would be something different & fun but still keeping a turbo out of the engine (insurance for a 21 year old sucks a bit). Yer not a huge fan of some of the insanely high spoilers on fc but this one just does the job without looking silly. Will def be looking in to chargers for her next year :) Running a single 3" straight thru all the way, can\'t wait to see what i sounds like with Renesis, hope she still pops & kicks flames!! Not sure what the lip came off but found it on good old eBay. Thanks for your comments guys. Just waiting for my calipers to come back from being powder coated red.

1K for the engine and box was a very good find, you would pay half that for a box alone !! That was definately worth the while. have you any write ups on the installation?
be nice to know for the future

Sounds such a sensible choice for the money and it\'s certainly a very interesting combination :) Hope you will be bringing it to some of the shows? ;)

Good luck with the project and do let us know how you get on!

Quality job, good to see original thinking.
Great choice imo, you would have to plough loads of money into 13b and seriously compromise the driveability to get that kind of power.
I\'d love to see how an FC handled with N/A delivery at that sort of power. Could be a great weapon (especially if you put it on a diet!)

Post by: James H on August 13, 2008, 07:46:58 AM
Thanks guys & will get a rough writeup on it sometime in the furture. Yer engine & gearbox was a steal was getting quotes ranging from 2.5k up 4.5k so dead happy. But def seemed the best option to me, will be stripping here of what i can but it is to be my everday driver so sadly only so far i can go with that. Once she is up & running sound & few little things tided up will def be coming along to some of the shows

Is this going to be fuel managed by the standard RX8 ECU or are you going a different route. I would have imagined you would have put it in lock stock and barrel.
Can not understand the RX7Club as this has been done over there and they say its a lot of work and not worth the bother, but you seem to have done it in a very short time.  We do need a write up though.

Yer project is finihsed but still needs the 3rd flap (part of the intake) to be wired up to a shift light to enable the complete the final tune.

Really nice FC man! LOVE those wheels! Black with white is just the cats pj\'s! And that spoiler looks awesome! And thats from someone who is usualy heard saying "standard bodywork FTW!" Like the idea of the 8 engine in there as well!. Its N/A isn\'t it?

Also nice to hear of another young \'un with a 7! I\'m 21 as well! Was thinking i must be the youngest one on here! Lol! I pay somewhere around 700 for a year 3rd PF&T insurance on a 90 Turbo II.

You going to fit some deeper skirts on it to mach up with the front lip depth?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on February 09, 2009, 09:03:45 AM
Thanks dude. She is n/a got the 231 8 engine in it but thats a load of rubbish they never make 231 even straight out of the factory, once the final tune is done should be looking at a very reliable 200. Do like the wheels myself & like you say white & blacks is the dogs but them being multispoked & white its a bitch to keep clean, so have some wheels lined up & am gonna be changing them once the body kit is on.
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: Brett on February 09, 2009, 09:08:34 AM
Is that 200 at the wheels?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on February 09, 2009, 09:21:20 AM
Emmmm prob possiable with a load of tuning but doubt it will be that much prob more like 180 at the wheels

Post by: Brett on February 09, 2009, 09:26:07 AM
I\'m surprised it\'s so low?  What sort of torque are you getting?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on February 09, 2009, 09:34:23 AM
Yer sadly so was i, the 231 rx8 lump in a stock rx8 only makes around 180 at the wheels. But like i said it stills needs the 3rd flap to be set up correctly & more tuning. As for tourque dunno what im running but its set up for lower down tourque power. I know they did arun with the 3 rd flap open & it hit 206bhp, but sadly the flap cant just be left open.
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: Prof on February 09, 2009, 10:22:25 AM
That looks the business in the engine bay - really nice job of work someones done there :Thumbs-up

I take in the upper inlet manifold is plastic ?

Are you using the stock RX8 ECU ?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on February 09, 2009, 10:32:25 AM
Yer most of the work was done by Chris & the wiring by Jeff at Re:Worx, upper inlet is plstic, no couldn\'t use the rx8 ecu (sadly as this was one of the biggest costs) am running a M2R Motech ecu which does the job but to be honest really needed a better ecu than that as we ran out of outputs on the ecu, hence why the 3rd flap isnt being controlled.
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: L18M on February 09, 2009, 02:18:04 PM
nice work!
wheres the engine? lol
if you got a TII hood wouldnt it be better to try stick the mushroom under the scoop so you get more cold air than where it is now?
or is there not enough space to place the mushroom there?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on February 09, 2009, 09:09:06 PM
Have just got TII hood on here but like you say not enough room as the scoop is set too far back.

Supercharge it!!! you know thats going to be the next stage, nice conversion mate and nice to see how relatively easy it was, at least you may be the only FC with a RX8 lump in it. As with any engine you know full well that if you can get 200BHP standard from it then there are lots of avenues to go down to get a few more without costing too much.
Title: RX7 progress pictures.

Post by: dthebuk on May 11, 2009, 10:46:05 AM
I\'d say deffo get rid of that BGW. It just looks to modern for the rest of the car imo. Personally i\'d go spoiler-less on the back then get one of these http://www.irishrotary.com/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=25306#25306
Also with that body kit id got for wide front and rear arches.

Hows the engine going anyway, sorted out the ecu problems yet?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on May 11, 2009, 11:06:07 AM
Cheers for the feedback & the link nice little add on but bit too pricey for me, yer spoiler-less is def growing on me. Engine is ok still waiting on RE-Worx to sort out some way of controlling the 3rd flap but they are very busy at the mo so expecting to wait even longer, which is bit rubbish. Not really interested in the bigger arches bodykit was bad enough state & still causing me more agro but happy with the overall look for now.
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: dthebuk on May 11, 2009, 11:17:28 AM
yea ive heard quite  few negatives with the fitment of that kit.

hmm have you though about just wiring one of the ports open so you dont have to control as many. You may lose some low down torque but you\'ll still have normal rx8 powers later on in the rev range
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on May 11, 2009, 11:20:25 AM
Big thanks RepliKit thats all i\'ll say. Yer think thats the route we are gonna take, have it closed then use a shift light to open her at a certain rev point!

i quite like the big chicken wing on the rear. but thats jus my opinion.
if u have that wing already then i\'d be interesteed to take it off your hands if u go spoilerless ^^

did it take much modding/mauling to get the rx8 lump to fit? how have you spent on the conversion so far?
Title: RX7 progress pictures.
Post by: James H on May 11, 2009, 01:11:51 PM
Yer still have the wing if i do consider to sell you can have 1st dibs.

Nah not real amount of work went into it the fitting or tuning, costs were

2006 230 RX8 engine & gearbox at 30k £1000 (thats very cheap)
MoTech M2R ECU £900
ReWorx labour £700
Exhaust system £200
Extras etc £200

Here are some update pics, now have the kit on but still needs work & some straightening up to be done to the front bumper & then finally sprayed, spacers to go on the rears tomor, sunroof to be replaced soon, not forgetting the final tune once they ahve sorted me a out a shift light setup for my 3rd flap, gonna loose the spoiler as think its too much for the car anyway feedback more than welcome. Thanks for the feedback, I agree & think it looks a lot sleeker without the rear wing, have def lost some rear downforce but its summer-ish now so liking that, going to get a wing of some sort but nothing half as big as the previous one, thinking of a sleek spoiler that will extend the length of the car a bit, that way i don\'t need it sitting so high but it will still get me some downforce.

Quoted\'oh, then i need to find a solution to attach it =s/QUOTE]
I just made up a template for the supports & the lined up the spoiler, marked up the holes onto the template & took it to a local metal works they made them up for me in a couple of days cost me £60.

think thats all the measurements i need so i can see if my tuner can make sth up for me.

-solid diff mounts
-massive cowling & electric fan installed
-new piping for air intake

Good work! That\'s looking pretty clean now.

What rear bumper is that? And how did you get the black side repeaters - tint them?

Pretty sure its the GP Sports rear bumper or something close to that, can\'t remeber to be honest. Yer the side repeaters was just a tint job but sinks them into the rest of the car nicely, the lights still comes thru well even during the day.

Right have now installed my hydro just gotta wait for my mate to come  round so we can have the joy of bleeding it heres some pictures, was  fairly easy to instal & the only power tool i used was a drill to  make a hole to feed the brake line tfor the rear calipers.

Nice work, that\'s the only place I could think of fitting one too - it\'s quite cramped isn\'t it?!

car looks great, its an amazing project!

The only thing i don\'t get is why you didn\'t just go for a TII motor. More torque, less work, more upgrades etc. It looks to be a lovely car, but it seems like a lot of extra ball ache and money

Ha yes guys I do agree with you...... but uniqueness & reliability were the big deciders for me & the renesis come out tops on both & as i had lined up the engine & gear for so cheap it seemed rude not to!
