Title: Bonnet lifters?
Post by: nikp on August 12, 2008, 12:23:34 PM
I used to use Tein bonnet lifters, but they\'re too powerful for a fibraglass bonnet which is what I have. Does anyone know of any \'weaker\' bonnet lifters that a fibreglass bonnet will be able to close?

Thanks for the warning.

Have a look through here:
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=retrieveTfg&binCount=60&Ne=4294957561&Ntt=gas+struts&Ntk=I18NAll&Nr=AND%28avl%3auk%2csearchDiscon_uk%3aN%29&Ntx=mode%2bmatchallpartial&N=4294955592&Nty=1

RS Components have a range of gas struts and most of them have a valve on them where you can release pressure. So once fitted you can release enough pressure until it suits your application IYSWIM.

Just need to measure up the Tein ones and find something similar!

I haven`t seen the tein ones but is there any way of letting a bit of the gas out? Some of the gas cylinders I have seen on CNC machines have a small grub screw in one end to relieve a little pressure to suit. (be very carefull not to let to much out though!)

In my trawl of the \'net I have also seen this. I will take the end off when i get home and have a look. Trouble is: I\'ve lost the metal pegs with the ball on that bolts into the wing! :( So even if they can be adjusted, they are useless!!

I know a chap who makes them for various cars.  I can ask him again if anyone is interested cause I would like a set.  Think he wanted £45 and he tailors the pressure for your application (I would need the lenghts and what ever else it is you need to know to make them).  Sure he will do a lil discount if we have a few. :)

Ok then I can ask the chap if he would do a price for the FD and also the FC.  I shall also ask him if he will discount if we get a few of us together.  I will need the dimensions or whatever it is though.

I\'ll contact him and see what he needs :)

Remember, the important as pect for me would be that a fibre glass bonnet can shut them. The TEIN ones are too strong.
