Title: Turbo lag solutions..??
Post by: L18M on August 12, 2008, 02:40:19 AM
Hello,

I had a fc TII and have recently fitted a fmic, chipped stock ecu, 3inch exhaust  + cat, blitz induction.

this has caused a bit of turbo lag.
the power is now more uniform with not much turbo kick (sinking back in the seat feeling)

how can i increase the boost?
will a boost controller help? (apexi AVC)
i\'d rather not go down the bigger turbo route yet as lack of funds and am still searching for an apexi pfc.

Anti lag if you must but doesn\'t do the turbo unit any favours over time :3Confused

It\'ll be the FMIC that\'s caused the most lag as the pipework is much longer. You have to look at the size of pipes and the angles of the bends if you have bends of 90deg or higher you\'ll find greater lag as a right angle corner slows the flow.

Porting would reduce lag considerably and also would make a bigger turbo more relevant

Nitrous Oxide will help the turbo spin up too! :evillaugh (not sure on info for the Rotary application though)

Anti lag is indeed not street legal nor will it help the life of your turbo which is double not good if you say you have lack of funds!

Nitrous oxide in a turbo charged rotary should only be used for cooling:

I wouldn\'t even try for a front mounted IC on a stock turbo due to the lag it causes, thats why I have got a new top mounted IC.

To reduce turbo lag I guess you would need to port the engine to a more extreme degree to increase exhaust gasses, fitting a large front mount with a stock IC isn\'t really recomended due to the extra lag it causes.

It\'s perfectly feasable to use NOS on a turbo\'d rotary - you just have to be careful about timing and combustion chamber temps and pressures.  Smaller shots would be ok.  It can be used in the lower parts of the MAP to spool up the turbo quickly - rather than just having it on a WOT switch or progressive control.

after driving the fc to work everyday for a week (120 miles round trip a day!) the lag is not as bad as i thought.
well.. it is bad but the engine behaves more like a NA and the power feels very linear.
makes it easier to go round corners fast without spinning out lol

small price to pay now (literally) but in long term will be worth it once i finish modding my fc =P
though ALS does sound quite fun!!

I belive the super PFC ECU has anti lag settings.

Can you post a pic of the setup please. Thank you.

F Con V Pro has anti lag, but as said above your turbo wont like it and it wont last long

a small 25 shot of Nos will be ideal
