Title: Boost Issues Solved!!!
Post by: Locki on August 11, 2008, 04:36:58 PM
Just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone (too many to list, lol) who has given me advice and generally pointed me in the right direction.

I finally finished the vac hose replacement job:Thumbsup! It now feels like i own a completely different car! This was my first job on any vehicle, let alone a rex:2Confused All the help and advice (and parts - thanks dave!) that i recieved was spot on. I couldn\'t of done it without!

I can now safely say that i hope i NEVER have to do the job again! most of it was easy, but some of the hoses are a complete F***ing nightmare to get to.. but it was all completely worth it. Anyway, a couple of pics incase anyone\'s interested

Nice one bud, looking at those pics brings back memories. Glad you got it sorted and I know exactly what you mean about feeling like a new car, i had no 1st turbo for best part of a year and when I fixed it I was amazed. It\'s a great feeling when your own hard work has fixed it, now go out and enjoy!

Thanks fellas. Overall, the job took 2 weeks:2eek as i was taking my time, plus the weather couldn\'t make it\'s mind up:2Mad There were so many times i sat back and thought "what the f**k am i doing!?!? why did i start doing this!!!" I nearly left some of the old hoses in, because they were nearly impossible to get at, but as most of the hoses i took out were soooo brittle and loose, i thought if i left any behind it would be sods law that those were the ones causing problems.

Don\'t know mate, but sounds like a great idea! I noticed there\'s quite a few owners around our area, and i\'ve never seen any of you! lol. Would definately be up for a meet of some sort though. we will have to sort something out. end of the month / begining of next would be good?

I got mine off Bob aka-ro284 (thanks again bob!) as he had some spare, only 4 unfortunately, i still need a 5th one. I believe there\'s a guy on ebay in the USA called rx7guru, he sells 5 of em for about $20 but last time i checked he was all out. With any luck someone on here will be able to sort you out, if not do a search for "viton check valves" HTH

P.S Thanks everyone for the nice comments, much appreciated!

RedRummy... I hope to never have to do this job again, once was enough lol ;)

Well done Locki glad it\'s sorted, when i bought a few sets of Viton valves from the guy in the states i understood they were in sets of 4, not 5!
( perhaps a less important valve is the one to the \'catch tank\' ) but after seeing your problem with the blown valve in your first pic i realised that i hadn\'t changed that one to pressure chamber on mine, so i fitted one to that line as well, now i\'m sure my boost is higher, up to one bar on the second turbo! it may be related to other work iv\'e done, but to make sure i\'m going to fit an original back in and see if the boost gauge shows o.8. i\'m worried boost may be too high, What year is your FD? only i notice you have got an Efini Y pipe on there (99 spec). i fitted one on mine with Hard Pipes and it is a very good mod for the twins!
Cheers Bob

I have an Efini Y-pipe? lol i didn\'t even realise:Hammer. I thought it was a standard one. Shows how much i still have yet to learn. Anyway, my car\'s a 1995 model. Starting to get a little concerned now as the guy i bought it off was a trader and he had no documents with it etc and didn\'t know what had been done to it. All i knew was that it passed the main checks required when buying an FD and it had low mileage so I just went for it. Starting to wonder now what has actually been done to it :3Confused

p.s about the check valves, you are right m8, 4 not 5. my mistake
