Title: REX on Ebay
Post by: Joely on August 04, 2008, 08:24:36 PM
Hi guys and gals. Have had my eye on an rex for a while now. Have seen the following one on ebay which sounds good on the face of it. Not too sure what it will run up to but i suppose considering milage is hitting 60k you would need to budget for a rebuild in the region of 3k. The spec suits me (e.g auto, no major mods etc). Any thoughts?

Hi

Car looks very nice, it all depends on the price.  You will have to put a side 3k for a re-build but then unmolested car could give you another 20 000 miles.

Do you know much about RX7s?  Have you driven one before?

Michaelb

you can get standard rebuilds for 1600 + Vat mate all be it a basic refresh, but if you are looking at spending 3k you would be looking at an engine with mods done to it ;)

Cheers for the thoughts fella\'s. I have indeed driven one before and really did enjoy it. Not looking to purchase one for thrashing, track day use really, hence it being auto is not a problem for me. Rebuild starting from £1600 basic refresh?? That\'s pretty good. Got a few quotes on insurance which are acceptable to me. May well take a look at this one, not really going to rush and will bide my time

Jono

How are you doing mate?

TBH I don’t see the point in doing half the job, I believe in a full rebuild with all new bits and no re-usable parts.  Something is always going to go bust if it is old.  Everything has its live expectancy including engine parts.

Also, I am not 100% sure if any tuner will give a warranty on a half re-build.

Kerim at Powergains in London insisted on a full rebuild for my engine  in order to warranty the engine.

I guess it all depends on a budget mate â€" we have all been there â€" busted engine and wondering how much to spend LOL

Regards,
Michael

Where abouts in London are you?  I am in N8, if you see a car you really like and if you are this side of the river I may be able to help you decide..

You should go to Rotorstock next weekend, there is always a few good cars for sale there and getting one form the club member will get you the history of the car..

Thanks Michael, just down the north circ in east london. I\'ll keep that in mind. Just out of curiosity, how much would you expect a 99 Auto to go for in todays market? Obviously I understand that it depends a lot on what nick it is in, but a rough range?

Over 12k but I could be totally wrong...

Ask me about 96 modded, single or twin, 93 single or twin turbo I will have an answer for you..

ATM the cars are not selling for much...shame...you maybe lucky and get one for less then it\'s worth..

By the way take your future car to Powergains for a check up b4 u buy it, they are in Romford - not too far form you I guess, down the A12

Michaelb

99 specs are very rare in this country due to the 10 year import law introduced a few years ago, I would say easy 8k, if goes for less its a bargain

Theres a red auto with a fresh rebuild thats been hanging around on pistonheads for months now so the price should be negotiable...

Rebuilds with new parts cost from 2k mate and warranty given so i wouldnt worry there mate if you do decide to go for it.

My parents live in East London so im round there a bit if you want me to have a look for you mate

If it does need a rebuild, do it yourself and save a few quid. After measuring the tollerances on the plates and housings to find that it was almost perfect (the engine had done 47k before i fried the seals) i spent about £900 on new parts. Better than paying out 2-3k! My mate had to remorgage his house to repair his because some c**t didn`t fix it properly!:Grrr:Hammer
