Title: Dipstick Confusion!
Post by: T11MNM on August 04, 2008, 08:05:03 PM
Checking the oil on my FD one side of the dipstick reads full the back of it tells a different story.

I check in a flat floored garage and i\'ve never had problems with other cars, anyone got any ideas?

I\'m also checking from stone cold, is that right or should i be running it for a bit and letting it cool?

Have always been told to check from cold, but now reading conflicting views. How can something so elementary be so confusing, lol

if you check it from cold all the oil is in the sump so you get a correct reading. but if you check it just after she has been run, then you will have oil floating around the engine & the reading will not be accurate. When you pull the dipstick up the tube it car spread the oil around a little so this could be your confuaing issue...... especialy if the oil is fairly new and golden in colour as it is harder to spot.

use a clean rag - just lay it on the rag, and roll it over - will leave the oil behind, so you can check the level :)
