Just wondered what the different bonnets available were called...
Am i correct in thinking the scoot type is the one with an opening at the front & then 6 or so nicely arked holed panning out further back?
I do particularly like the look of this kind although i\'m not so sure about the carbon thing on a black car what\'s the general name of these styled ones?
Cheers
Si
Yes thats the scoot one you described :)
Theres some replicas here of the RE-Amemiya N1 bonnet and the Scoot bonnet. There mite be a few others but cant remember off the top of my head
Rotary Extreme (http://www.rotaryextreme.com)
Stout (http://www.stout.jp/photo/index.html) the makers of my bonnet do one like that for the FD, with an intake hole too which is a bonus! :D
(http://www.stout.jp/photo/supra/jza80r.jpg)
Si, the one in your pic is Mazdaspeed.
Go careful with bonnets mate; seen loads of (fake) vented bonnets at Geff\'s and no lie 95% look awful, both quality and fit :( Just ruins the front of the car IMO...
If you are thinking of gettting a carbon bonnet, go talk to dragon (Ross) He has a few on his web site. Also if you want to see a carbon bonnet on a black car buy Japanease performance this month to see Miguels absulutly great looking motor.
I think his is the best looking RX7 I\'ve ever seen!
cheers folks i did notice it looked similar to the mazdaspeed ones on takakaira, stupid question time can you apint carbon uns to match bodywork? i guess that almost defies the point in having carbon in the first place but was intreged as mazdaspeed un on taka was blue but described as carbon although i may of missed something again as i said elsewhere my ma did always say i\'d go blind

Interesting comments about bad fitting mine did have slightly bizarre lines previously along the wing/headlights/bumper but i was never sure which bit this was caused by. I guess if i\'m getting new bumper wing etc anyway bodyshop would be able to ensure it fits well.
I should add that bonnet pictured above is from Dragons site & looks good stuff & well priced so very tempted potentially......
Any cunning plans greatfully recieved mind....:god
Ta
Si
Just try and see examples of the bonnet fitted before buying; loads of those MS-look ones I\'ve seen are w#ank! :D
A decent body shop can only do sooo much to make things look ok Si :D
heres a fibre glass one.
carbon
experimental carbon with gel coat, thats going to be all painted soon.
I guess you could say I like scoot :D
lol nah it doesn\'t show (http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/ups/trixie/winksmile.gif) more lust me thinks.... lol
So from the yellow one whats the story with "exerimantal...gel" stuff? I take it from colour at least it painted easy enough?
So you mean my bodyshop wont be able to make it look like a ferrari? only kidding but i\'d presume Ross\'s were pretty good stuff, anyone sucked it & seen as such? (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/liebe/love-smiley-081.gif) lol
Si (breathes a sigh of relief as realisation i dont own a MR2 i\'m trying to make look like a rari sets in

lol)
any more names, brands, sellers, pikkies etc folks?
Si
mine\'s a panspeed/copy of...
more piccies here (http://www.citymate.net/~petra/index.php?section=Car).
got any pix of the hole

kinda vent thingy from the drivers side & where you got that bad boy from?
Also any comments on how well yours & anyones elses bonnet fitted as per previous comments?
Ta
Si
oh & another thing while i think of it, the bonnet clips, or wotever they\'re called, how easy do they fit in particular with carbon bonnets are they more at risk of braking

or such like, when drilling or otherwise?
Cheers
Si
Bonnet was on mine when I got it. I think it\'s a copy but is pretty good - you can see the shut lines are nice and even.
The pins are pretty standard and can probably be sourced easily. Mine\'s not carbon so I can\'t comment on how that is for drilling but mine\'s no problem and doesn\'t splinter/chip.
It\'s very light, not sure how it compares to stock but I\'d guess it\'s at least half the weight.
Not sure if he\'s selling but a certain Mr Fish has a nice bonnet sitting in his house at the moment looking lonely...
Will try to take some piccies tyhis weekend but the car needs a good bath and polish after yesterday\'s 360 miles (isn\'t the new B\'ham bypass a nice road?)
Iain
(no officer it wasn\'t me going past you at 150, that must\'ve been the other person who\'s miles down the road by now...) *cough*

Sadly for some this is already sold to a very very nice man. I am just holding it until they are ready to receive it. ;)
Fish
PS. I\'ll even wash it before I fit it. :D
so wot bonnet was it then out of interest?
Si (nosy wee booger

)
The daddy of them all (IMHO)... RE Amemiya AD9.
I think there are pictures of it on here somewhere... ;)
Fish
Dunno if it\'s any use to ya mines a fibre glass jobby, nice and light :)
As I say, nice n thin to make the sound of ya dump values sound good hehe. Got the air intake at the front, a centre grill and a further grill at the back I guess to let heat escape

A standard bonnet weighs not a lot anyway to be honest. All you really gain is the vents.
Whilst most of them look cool, im convinced some of them cant do airflow much good in reality.
Lee
My carbon scoot bonnet weighs 3.5kg :D

Lee, I would luv to join the planet where a stock bonnet weighs as little as a fibre glass unit. Gravity on this planet must be great. :D
Fish
Yes but the gain is relativly little as the stock one is light. Very few of us couldnt save more weight with some excercise.
Gary you bad man trying to tempt me....... my credit card is warming to you thou

lol
Which is the RE Amemiya AD9 one then? Couldn\'t see any RE Amemia stuff on takakaira or owt...but i was always warned i\'d go blind

lol
Si
what about this one?
I bet not many fd\'s have a FEED bonnet like me!
heres another!
last one.

Lee thats cut me to the bone, I could shed a whole factory of bonnets if I excercised. Buying a bonnet was just easier LOL

this one:
mmm sexy :cool
you could try something I see a lot of here.
Bonnet relief by tinsnips!
Never seen it done to an RX7 yet, but Soarers, WRX\'s, Evo\'s, Skylines, Silvias and 180SXs have had this modification done to them in one way or another that I have seen.
Unfortunately, it\'s usually attatched to something that you wouldn\'t want to poke a fight with unless you had something serious to poke back with. Like a Pratt & Whitney...
All the nice pretty bodywork is often seen on nice pretty cars that make lotsa noise and not much else. I\'m in backwater Japan, so folks here don\'t have the cash the big smoke folks do. You either build pretty car or you build a missile. Not much cash for both sadly. :(
Then again, the nicest body work I saw was on an RX7 and it also had nice under car illumination. Orange it was, but it wasn\'t neon...
stupid question mode on:
What happens to the sponge kinda air filters/induction kits if the rain can run in the holes & on them bad boys & others bits for that matter?
Cheers
Si
PS any bonnet clip wotsit info as well? (ok i\'ll get me coat & search then...;))
Stupid answer mode engaged:
They are young, they are crazy and they have new toys.
They also have folks that build 1000hp Skylines/Supras/whatever to look upto as their fellow countrymen!
I could say that the fact they are Japanese explains everything, but it doesn\'t really.
Besides, most of these DIY scoops are to let air out that has run through the intercooler. Not talking a gaping hole, but a kinda squared off U cut, and then it\'s bent to suit.
And yes they rust pretty quick too.
Sorry for the delay, busy uploading my website... ;)
The vent in mine doesn\'t seem to let much crap fall in and it\'s generally pretty clean under there. Will take piccies this weekend and post for you Si.
Iain
I bet not many fd\'s have a FEED bonnet like me! [/B][/QUOTE]
Mine does, but its not hit UK shores yet
Just taken a few piccies of the bonnet...
un autre...
pins...
Not sure about those pins... :p
And you could have at least dried it off first. :D
Fish
does look nice thou, but you say no idea where to get such bonnet from in UK? :(
Fish any other cunning pin plans?
Si
Si,
Not a clue where to get one of those here, takikira have them though (well the piccies), not too expensive.
I need to paint the pins properly some time - primer and lacquer, the hammerite i used wasn\'t dry when I put \'em back on and scratched quite badly.
Iain
PS. Was going to wash it before doing the photos but it\'s bloody freezing today and I\'m a wuss!
heres mine FEED, not many fd\'s have this one!!!
here is mine
Its mazda speed carbon fiber, i think....
cool nice one mate, anyone got decent photos of a black

car with AD9 on trying to picture what it would look like?
Cheers
Si
2 are the carbon ones but it kind of gives u an idea. Rather tempted by the carbon one myself :)
See how the panel gaps are excellent in all 3 cases; compare that to most of the copies out there!
2

I have that bonnet but the insurance company wont let me put it on:reallymad :reallymad :reallymad
sorry for scratched record but im very bitter :(
Change insurers then mate!
have tried all the usual suspects for insurance, no joy, some say ive got too many mods already.
Hopefully i\'ll find one by next year, the under 25 thing is the main limiting factor for me at the moment.
And it gives me a year to stockpile some other goodies :D
I backup what Rich has said about fitment of the PROPER versions, they fit in all the right places. ;)
Fish
hmmmmmm

Si
(http://mysmilies.ipbfree.com/s/otn/love/luxlove.gif)
now would you mount bonnet pins vertically or horizontally?
Si (indicision master

)
Si, other than the continuing pointless smiley posts (are you two years old or something????), you would use nice flat bonnet locks, not those crappy (imho) bar locks.
Fish
where can you get the totaly flat ones from then?
Si (resist using tongue smily......for now ;) )
Anywhere that sells bonnet locks will be able to get or should have in stock the flat bonnet locks.
Fish
OK cool are they like the round looking metal things, i recall seeing them on someones bonnet but haven\'t been able to see any on the likes of demontweeks etc or well any of the other general mods sites.........
Guess i\'ll ask around......
Si (look no smilies ................................................................. nearly (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mini/small-smiley-021.gif) lol)
aha found some nice flat locking goodies:
GE66 (http://www.graystonengineering.com/lock%20assembled%20page.htm) & the pack (http://www.graystonengineering.com/bonnet%20lock%20page.htm)
or the GE58 (http://www.graystonengineering.com/accessoriesmenupage.htm) which doiesn\'t appear to lock but is "Traditional type of quick release bonnet" any idea what that means, i guess the 66 is more flush & better but wasn\'t too sure & was a bit worrying where it says "THIS PRODUCT MUST NOT BE USED UNLESS IT IS FITTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURERS OWN BONNET SAFETY CATCH, THIS ESPECIALLY APPLIES TO CARS WITH FIBRE GLASS BONNETS." sounds a bit less secure from that?
Any thoughts, experiances opinions etc?
Cheers folks
Si
oh both here too & not too expensive... (http://www.ears.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Boot___Bonnet_Springs___Fasteners_87.html)
doubt if they are less secure, think they just mean that they shouldn\'t be used as the dependent force holding the bonnet down.. they are for support rather than to use on thier own..
:bandit
oh so that means i gota make yet another decision......
Si (indicisive at best

)
hehe you\'ll get there :D
shopping is fun! :rollin
