Hi all, my engine is virtually standard apart from airfilters, ang blitz back box. Last few days, I\'ve noticed some bubbling noises from the engine.....water cooling system I\'m assuming....when I\'ve turned off.........
Should I let the engine idle for a minute or so before turning off?
The water temp. gauge still sits just below horizontal
Thanks
Are your fans coming on? the wire from my Thermoswitch broke down and mine didnt! fortunately i noticed it early,

Is that the standard water temp gauge matey?
If so it\'ll only move when temps are far too high. Do you have a Power FC, if not get an aftermarket gauge. Oh, and check thermostat, thermoswitch and fans if your temps are too high :)

Do the fans come on when the car is off?:3Confused never noticed this on mine, will have to investigate. They come when stuck in traffic at about 95 deg.:cool
heard it on mine when im about to turn off and water temps at 85. Think its just the system cooling down.
Never worried about it on mine
check the water level, if its down could be the AST cap letting water though to the expansion bottle and hence the water bubbling. Could try and change the cap and see what happens?
Yes I will check the water level...
If I leave it idleing for long enough the fans do come on for a while
It is the standard gauge, I think I will put in an aftermarket one soon.
I do have a power FC, but cant be bothered getting it all mapped at the moment
....when this happened to me it was down to a tiny crack in the AST which when replaced cures the problem and stops you melting your engine..:2Confused
did I mention I have one forsale:) £40.00 delivered
if i turn the engine off without the keys in my fans didnt come on but if the keys are in with the ignition on then they will
used to happen on mine. Improved after changing the ast cap. You\'re better off doing the last 10 mins of your journey off boost and switching off straight away. Rotarys get very hot when idling.

Similar thing happend to mine, but i had a slight split in the hose at the back of the UIM. When I turned off you could hear a gurgling sound as air was drawn into the system through the split. At the same time though I was also loosing coolant out of the split.
Check your water levels at both the filler neck and the overflow. If you have been loosing water, might indicate a split somewhere.
I\'m sure I also read somewhere that a gurgling sound could also be linked to water seal issues, but I\'d wait for someone more knowledgeable to confirm that before dreading the worst.
Thanks for all the help guys....
Just looked in the AST and the other cap......the water is a dark brown/rusty colour!! :(
I\'m guessing thats not a good thing. Oh and the other cap, radiator cap, the water was almost overflowing when i removed it
Obviously I need to change the coolant...but any ideas how and why its that colour?
Hmmm - could be corroded radiator or similar (that what happened on my ancient ford, iirc - but that was 15 years ago, so i could be mis-remembering)
think you answered your own question....dats normal
did I mention the AST only had 2000 miles use and cost me £110 :guinness

Ok- changed the coolant yesterday- it wasnt full of gunge, but some very light slime, and it was a dark brown colour- guessing it hasnt been changed for aaaages! :2Confused
I went to the gym this morning, and there were no gurgling noises, but when I got back to my house, there was gurgling noises. I live at the top of a steep hill, so I\'m guessing it\'s getting considerably hotter beacuse of the hill..............
Maybe it\'s the perfect excuse to get a vented carbon bonnet :mmmm
Get the commander up and running for that Power FC of yours bud and keep an eye on water temps :)
