Well, after 5 months of not having the FD due to an accident, and the MOT conveniently running out whilst in the bodyshop, it was MOT time.
Failed! Surprise surprise
On \'coroded front discs\' - which has happened \'cause I haven\'t been able to use the car for 5 months thankyou very much Mr MOT man!!
And the dreaded emissions test....reading of 8% where it should have been 3.5% to pass. Crap! Now I know the car has the Knightsports ECU, which I understand can\'t be remapped in this country, and has a CAT.
Anyone got any ideas on how to dramatically reduce this emissions reading? or is it now time to buy the long-awaited Apexi ECU before I can drive her again legally?
hi hi
just mot\'d mine which also had rusty discs all i did was drive it round for a bit with my foot on the brake pedal that sorted the fronts then applyd a bit of hand brake to sort the rears passed ok
proberly doesnt do the pads much good tho!lol
dont know about emmissions tho clean the plugs and warm the cat up properly before mot bloke checks it?
^^^ What he said
New plugs and warm engine should help a lot. As for the discs - guess you got a grump MOT man - as long as the surface is sound and the pads not worn - but if it\'s brake lines or fittings - then they do get a bit more fussy - to be honest in that area of the car you\'d want them to be.
It\'s not the brakes Im too concerned about reallly to be honest, just the emissions. It seems a v. high reading for it to just be new plugs, (and the ones that are in were new in January) but I guess it has been standing still a LONG time.
It\'s probably worth going and giving it a good thrashing, and then when you get to the MOT make sure it\'s done with the CAT nice and how, ideally as soon as you get there, so it\'s not had a chance to cool down.

Agreed - particularly as you do have a CAT - could well be the CAT has had it - might be worth swapping it out if you can - you only need it on there for the MOT - then run decat until next time ;)

Bit risky having no Mot or tax - it\'s not the most discreet car to thrash around is it. Anyone got a private road? lol

Well, it\'s perfectly legal to be driving to and from a MOT centre with no MOT or Tax... Doesn\'t say anything about distance or route travelled ;)
In fact, I drove from Southampton dock in a car fresh off the boat, no number plates, let alone tax or MOT (insured of course!), to my local MOT station 200+ miles away... Of course this was my choice so I\'d not condone anything so stretching the letter of the law to it\'s thinnest!
Never thought of that!
Just got it booked in with Lindop for Monday. Local-ish lol! :chat
See what happens....
You\'ve got a cat, but don\'t say if you\'ve got a working airpump? Mine had similar emissions to yours, cos the airpump was fubar. Once that was working again, it passed fine
Ahh thanks for that...something to suggest! :Thumbs-up
