Title: Dead!
Post by: joola89 on July 20, 2008, 05:21:58 AM
Note time of post.
This is the time I got in this morning after being recovered.
Suspect engine failure. No compression.

Driving down the motorway, decided to gve it some beans!
Hit 145mph and engine went \'poof\'!
As if happened the road lit up underneath the car, so i shot out straight away incase i was on fire. No fire, but turbo red hot.

Bye bye FC :(

ekkkk - thats not a good sign matey

when you finally get up ( LOL ) - you need to have a nosey around the car and see what went

i must admit - i have never heard of one lighting up the road as it went bang ??

**** man that don\'t sound good. Glad your alright though. Like Grinder says i\'ve never heard of them letting go like that before. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Although I\'m at a wedding today so it\'ll have to be tomorrow or later.

Could it possibly being the turbo blowing up and the unburnt fuel hitting the red hot turbo and igniting causing the flash under the car? Also if it was turbo/manifold related then cause the turbo isn\'t spinning when you rev it won\'t boost meaning that it won\'t get the fuel and air mix correct causing the engine not to run correctly?

I\'ve got a spare manifold in the boot of mine if you need it Ray. Lets hope its something simple like that.

The stock figures for a Turbo II in its heavily restricted state says the top speed is 146mph

There are all the specs for the different RXs

You\'d be suprised what an FC can do with a couple of little mods. :driving :)

Didn\'t someone say they got an FD to 180? I mean the FC is slightly heavier than an FD, but its the same engine and a larger engine bay for more goodies lol Plus the best turbo upgrade on an FD is a single turbo....the FC has a single turbo as stock lol :D

I don\'t know what the FD will do top end, but without higher gear ratio\'s I think it would struggle to do 180mph.

Although saying that, I dunno why anyone would wanna go that fast lol you can\'t get to that speed down the drag strip, you are probably better off changing the diff to a 4.3 or something so get better acceleration lol Hmm I wish that the FC had 6 gears, cause then it might actually be economical to drive long distance lol

Yeah I second that. An overdrive would do (oldschool) like the FC!.

Yeah I was asking about fitting an overdrive to my car, but it seemed rather an expensive option lol

My FD got to 155MPH down a runway, think that was about the limit but then I was ever so cautious about strange noises etc but then a 100MPH corner soon slowed me down. The FC i am not so sure on but might give the white one a good go at the next track day here at Marham and see what it will do.
Joola89 was your car standard or have you done a few mods to it ? Unless tuned for the mods and running the highest RON fuel you can get it might b another reason for it to go pop.  Lets just hope its just the turbo or something simple. Did you do a proper compression check or a finger over the hole job? Shame if its the engine as i just sold a TII lump for £600 inc of turbo.

What settings did you have dialed up on the boost controller ?

It may have blown out a manifold/gasket - let\'s hope it\'s not taken a seal out.

Man I always feel uneasy when people post their speed up along with the units, perhaps I\'m just paranoid :Giggle... Sorry to hear that though dude :(.

Well I have only got mine to 100 on the strip, can\'t afford going much above about 60 on the road lol fuel cost :O lol

Can\'t see anything missing.
No leaks
No nothing
Sounds weird, like no spark or no compression. It turns over so quick.
Had the boost controller on the lowest setting.
If it was the gasket/manifold surely it will tick over?
Need to find out what caused it, other than my heavy right foot.

hummm i must admit its not sounding good :(

if you take the plugs over and turn the engine over - can you hear it "whooosing" from the holes ??

maybe something to check when you have time :D

In several private environments I\'ve had an indicated 150+ out of a lightly modded FC with no probs. Get under there at first light and see whats what :yes

D\'oh, you should of gave me a ring \'adereed\'
Was just doing some gardening thinking what was the cheapest/easiest way of getting my car back on the road.
Not taken the spark plugs out yet, but when i try to turn it over i hear a thump where it tries to fire then 2 dead ones. Whoosing, a good noise to hear?
To be honest, it\'s knackered. It spins too freely to have any compression. D\'oh!

What are my options?
Repair current engine, whilst it was out i always debated to port it. I love the lumpy idle sound.
Drop another one in.
20B?
LS1?!

I don\'t even have numbers yet. What\'s the damage going to be on my pocket?

I\'ll give you a buzz tomorrow night buddy. I would imagine that your gonna need a re-build from what what you have described. Depending what you want to do you can either buy a new (second hand) engine and drop that in, or get yours re-built by a pro, or take you engine out and re-build it yourself if the internals are ok to reuse.

My ported 13bt is for sale, as is the whole lot (turbo, ecu, etc) and supporting mods that made 340hp @ 0.8bar boost, capable of 400hp with more boost
accepting offers for lot, can also offer installation

That sounds great!!
Unfortunately i don\'t have enough privileges to access that link to read the thread.
And I can\'t PM you
And I was very mislead on how much 13bt engines actually are and rebuilds.
I don\'t know what is a reasonable offer?
