Title: no rear interior!
Post by: ENVYD on July 19, 2008, 08:32:42 PM
well i started to take out the rear of my interior. am doing this because i am changing my reverse light into a fog, and i am feeding the wire under the interior!

anyways now its all out i don’t know what to do, should i put it all back in or clean it up, paint it black and leave it all out??

also found out that the rear strut brace only had one bolt on the drivers side and i had no idea that the bottom of the back seats where just glued in :S

weight reduction FTW :yes

For a start, how is the mid boot mounted acid filled projectile held down?

As for the interior - personally i\'d put it back in as I don\'t feel teh need to remove it - it\'s not exactly uber weighty, but that\'s your call at the end of the day :)

Personally I would have a full interior on a street car - looks untidy if left out.  Leaving it in will eliminate some noise too :)

Havn\'t you just removed all the weight over the rear tyres meaning less grip from the rears? In my FC im keeping everything stock in the back so I don\'t mess up to 50.5/49.5 balance too much.

and i want it to be a fast street/ track car sort of thing, sort of looking like this bad boy!

Perhaps you could put that battery in the spare wheel well so it doesn\'t come loose and damage you or the car, plus it will lower the centre of gravity a bit what fuel pump have you uprated it to at the mo?

yeah i might do that, just means drilling more holes tho!

i have a bosch 044 fuel pump. got it fitted when i got my rebuild done!

So hang on, the battery box is fixed to the car, but the battery is just plonked inside it?
Remind me never to passenger in your car ;)

Post by: ENVYD on July 20, 2008, 02:40:38 PM
no sorry lol the battery is braced into the box as well! there is a fixed block of wood inside the box and the battery is fixed well wedged to that, there is no way it can come out!

p.s i aint a taxi so dont worry :P

Seriously dude, you need to fix the battery to the car with a proper battery strap. A block of wood in a plastic box wedging something in palce is really not sufficient. At teh very least, use the OEM battery strap and bolt it through the boot floor.
a \'wedged\' battery in a plastic box will turn into a lethal projectile in the event of an accident - it\'s the same as when people just wedge sub boxes in the boot - it\'s a freakin\' death trap.

Think about it - car decelerates suddenly - and heavy acid filled battery flied towards the front of the car. Alternatively, car rolls, and acid filled weight bounces around the inside of the car. People really need to start realising how dangerous these things can be.

Please, please, PLEASE fix it down properly - sorry to sound like a stuck record, but that is properly dangerous.

What steering wheel is that you have?

Not sure I understand the logic in getting your dash and doorcards done in all that lovely alcantara, and then going with the skip-look delivery van boot kinda thing? Looks proper pikey, unless it\'s a full on track weapon? On a road car, I think the stripped look  just don\'t work. Just my 2ps worth

SiH\'s right about battery tie-downs, too. When I obliterated my last FD, the only injuries I got were nerve damage in my arm from smashing the centre console with my elbow and a very sore head from being smashed in the back of the noggin by my steering wheel club lock that went flying through the air like a guided missile! Good job I\'ve got a thick skull, really, wouldn\'t want to have stopped a flying battery with the back of my favourite head!

I think it looks horrible on a street car being stripped out. Particuarly with the covered dash and door cards. And i\'m with everyone else on the battery. If you get rear ended at 30mph the battery will be projected with 20g\'s of force ie 15kg battery x 20 = 300kg 12v death box.

I took my interior out just before we came to the Ring (it\'s raining out, don\'t fancy lapping in that so watched the Grand prix instead).

Main point is the noise I think. If you have a loud exhaust then prepare for ear plugs. Road and rain noise isn\'t so bad. I think it looks ok on a street car used on the track, and the reduction in weight will go a little way towards the removal of air pump and air con from the front.

ok well i gess the interior is going back in till i have the money to get the cage in so on fitted...

like i said it was not 100% sure if i was going to keep it out anyways! and i think i mgiht take the dash out and refit a flocked stock one! dont really like the looks of my dash anymore!

as for the battery i was wanting to get a RE-A case as they have the fixing straps in them already and is all one unit!

and the steering wheel is a KR racing wheel

edit: my air pump and a/c pump are gone :D

So there would be no benefit to removing the rear seats and all the extra bits and pieces and also the passenger seat.  Going up to Rotorstock and taking my FD down the strip and thought that stripping out the interior may get me an extra 0.1 or 0.2 of a second.

One option, Envy - take the seats etc out, and just carpet the rear :D

Should add some sound deadening, and look slightly less industrial than bare metal...

But where would you sit to drive it with no seats? :Giggle Not too comfortable sitting on the floor, even if you do carpet it!

Just as a matter of intrest I have rear seats at the moment but because of my Brides I can\'t actually get anyone in the back.

Are the storage buckets a direct replacement for the back seat and does anyone know whether any other parts are required to fit them?

Off subject but that is one of the 10 sexiest cars in the universe, I love it.

I\'d easily sell a lung for 5 laps in that round Tsukuba or Maze. :InLove

As long as the person\'s not too big, you can still squeeze someone into the back, mate ;)

Either have them crawl between the seats (One pushed all the way forward, the other all the way back) or slide in after pushing the passenger seat all the way forward. Feet on one seat bucket, bum on the other... I\'ve sat in the back of mine for hours like that - asleep whilst someone else drove. No probs! :D :Thumbs-up

Original rear seats are also useful for chucking luggage into, etc. Never had the plastic bins but they may be noisier.. :Tongue1

I removed my rear seats to make my own storage bins. The seats with belts, bolts & all weigh in at 10kg.

I have a fake floor in the rear with my water injection setup bolted to it. Have not complete the rear bins as I do not have my half cage in yet.

Thats OK for my little sister, however I\'m sure my mum would prefer a slightly more dignified way in/out of the back :Giggle preferably without the use of a crane or a hydraulic ram.

98% of the time theres no one in the back anyway and we don\'t have or intend to have any little \'uns. It leaves more space for corpses, err.... sorry I mean overly large luggage.
