Title: Mystery Pipes & Wires :)
Post by: DrDan on July 19, 2008, 08:16:31 PM
Here\'s a little puzzle for all of you...

I\'m in the process of swapping my alternator, and once I took out the broken one, I discovered some electrical connectors/pipes that weren\'t connected to anything, which always seems wrong to me (http://www.fduk.org/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Here\'s the engine bay, highlighting the area I\'m talking about:

And a close-up:

Item 1 is an electrical connector which did have a black with red stripe wire connected to it (until I broke it off (http://www.fduk.org/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif) )
Item 2 is a metal pipe... dry, with a little rust on the end no evidence of oil/fuel leaking from it (http://www.fduk.org/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Item 3 is a rubber pipe with what looks like a small air filter on the end - some kind of breather pipe perhaps?

Any suggestions of what these connectors/pipes are for, and what I should do with them gratefully received.
Car is a 1993 Japanese import FD [although it has a 1995/1996 car engine] with a/c; p/s; air pump in place; everything else stock as far as I can tell (http://www.fduk.org/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Thanks in advance,
Dan (http://www.fduk.org/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Hi Dan,

Don\'t know if it\'s a problem with my system, but I can\'t see the pics!

Just a guess though, is the car an import? Could be connectors for the emissions system for Euro cars, not sure why they would be there though, anyone?

Andrew.

In case no-one else can see the pictures, they are here:

I\'ve had "3" identified as being connected to solenoid "G", as seen on this diagram: http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/images/hoses.gif
On MT cars (which mine is), it appears to vent to atmosphere (through this little filter).

BTW, "1" is not the connector for the water thermoswitch - that connector is in place (just visible under the water pipe, it\'s the green connector).

Thanks,
Dan.

Hi Dan,

Well I\'ll have a look around the engine tomorow to see if I can figure anything out for you, but they don\'t look standard to me. Someone correct me if i\'m wrong.

Is the outside of the wire connector plug round? Looks like it, as far as I know Mazda connectors on the FD are all square (if that makes sense!)

Is the pipe connected to anything?

Andrew.

1 Not really sure. The coolant level sensor is a single wire but the plug doesn\'t look that shape.

2 is the main feed coolant line running back to the back of the waterpump from the throttle body. Should be a rubber pipe on it. Do you have a rubber pipe on the back of the throttle body ? Could have had a new line put in for that pipe too because of a leak in the hard line.

3 is a defuser running off one of the solinoids so you don\'t hear it blowing off when the vent is open.
