Hey,
I\'m not turbo geek but at least I know the how the idea works.
Give me a N/A engine I\'ll strip it and put it back together.
Now give me a TURBO, I\'ll er........ poke it.
Can someone point me into the right direction on how to install a boost controller? I\'m still a noobie on Turbo\'s.
A \'Dummies Guide on How to Install a Boost Controller\' would be brilliant! :Thumbs-up
I brought myself a HKS EVC4,
and all the vaccum hoses etc
But I have no idea where to start on my FC Turbo II.
I\'ve read and understood the HKS installation guide but when I look under the bonnet. I walk away. Internal, External wastegate, Dual port actuator??? HUH?! Don\'t get me wrong I know what a wastegate is, but which do I have?
Pictures, Diagrams, Arrows, Pointers, Quotes would be wicked!!
I would rather have someone tell me what to do, to understand more on how it works, Rather than I\'ll do it for you. If catch my drift.
Thanks in advance guys!
Details of my FC:

If you have an FC, then you have an Internal wastegate operated by an actuator that sits under the front of the Turbo unit - just under the compressor housing.
One of the first things you need to do is to locate the pipe coming for the stock boost solenoid, unplug the pipe from it and plug the end - it\'s not needed when an aftermarket boost controller is used, but will be a vacuum leak if left unsorted.
Then you will need to feed the one of the two larger hoses from the EVC to the wastegate actuator, and the other will go on to the small outlet on the output of the compressor. The smaller vacuum line is for sensing manifold pressure - that needs to be connected to a vacuum nipple on the manifold between the engine and throttle body - you can tee it into the same line that feeds the MAP sensor (small black box on a bracket on the shock tower).
Then just connect up some volts and get tuning it.
Cheers, for the reply.
OK,
Stock boost Solenoid - Underneath intercooler, passenger side. Unplug and block hose.
Lost now... Unplug hose from wastegate and replace to go to EVC?
And where is the output compressor?
If I follow the MAP sensor (drivers side near shock tower) hose it tees off into the BOV and dissappears into engine. Cut this hose and tee into smaller nipple on EVC?
Damn, I\'m stupid!
No your not :)- you\'ve got most of it worked out.
You can tee into that vac line with the BOV and MAP sensor on it - that\'s ideal for the boost/vac reading line for your EVC.
On the stock setup, there is a pipe that follows around the front of the compressor - one end goes into a nippled on the compressor outlet - you need that for one line from the EVC - that\'s your pressure to operate the actuator. The other end of that pipe goes into the wastegate - that\'s where the other larger line from the EVC would go. You\'ll find the line from the stock boost solenoid \'tees\' into this pipe on the turbo. If you\'ve disconnected both ends of it, and unplugged the pipe form the stock boost controller - you just need to cap off that pipe you\'ve unplugged - that\'s because the stock boost controller will leak air from the intake and could result in erratic idle or overfuelling.
Here is a pic - makes more sense when you see it:

The goldy coloured thing on the left is the wastegate actuator - you unplug the hose going into it and use the one from your EVC instead. The little nipple outlet on the top right - that\'s the output side of the compressor - that goes to your EVC - again unplug the stock hose - it\'s not needed anymore. That just leaves the hose that tees in (the one at the bottom of the photo - that\'s from the stock boost solenoid - just unplug it and bung it\'s end.
Excellent!!
Cheers Prof!
I can now relate to this diagram

What threw me off was the first hose on the left, and the fact I didn\'t know which type of turbo i had.
Sweet!
Let\'s busy!
After a beer.
Followed \'Prof\'s\' guide.
One boost controller installed!
Spot on!
Joola man, Was told by Ade you fitted an HKS FCD to your Turbo II? Any chance you could tell me how you did it bud? I\'m lost! Lol!
Thanks!:Thumbsup!
Locate ECU.
Underneath the passenger side footwell carpet.
Cut air pressure sensor wire and wire into the FCD. Can\'t remember which wire to cut. I think it was stripey.
See diagram below.

I cut 2H.
As you can image the huge block is the ECU connector block.
Yellow to ECU
White away from ECU
HKS FCD setting 2
Gave the FCD some power, easy to wire... Red for positve, and Black for Negative.
HKS FCD manuals can be found:
Whoops,
HKS FCD manual found here.
