I just read that and have seen a similar on Supra Mk IV forum, it\'s confirmed for me that I won\'t buy a car unseen and checked.
Which importers allow you to give a deposit and then if you don\'t like the car in the UK, give you back your full deposit?
I need an auto RX7 so it isn\'t easy there are very few in the UK, driving an A-Class Merc at present and have an opportunity to upgrade to a W202 c230 K sport from my parents but they bore me to tears. Might have to do it if no auto rex\'s come along at this rate!
Interesting, Miguel and Newera have a very good rep - difficult to know what\'s really going on there withouth hearing their side of things.
Some of the importers will refund deposits if you don\'t like the car that comes over. I know Linney.org do this (they take a 1k cheque from you but don\'t cash it). Not sure what Rotary Imports policy is but Brian\'s a good bloke.

Nice car Gary but I\'m looking for a black FD and with much lower mileage.
Will contact Linney.org, looked at their site and they have a lovely black type r with mazdaspeed wheels, wish it had an auto box(wish even more I had the patience to pass manual in the first place and not rush through the auto test!)
Regarding Newera I would say not to be put off by that post, my experience with them was totally different. Miguel always replied to my emails (of which there were plenty) before, during and after it was purchased, and the man knows his rotary\'s ;)
Just letting you know that for that one disgruntled customer there are probably hundreds of happy ones :D
I\'d be disgruntled too if I bought a Pajero, especially if it was for the school run :D
Happy hunting :)

I\'d refund a deposit so long as I didn\'t feel the buyer was taking the piss. I know a guy who has been shafted several times as he\'d taken a deposit, bought cars at auction and when it turned up the punters basically said "no thanks, don\'t like it, found another one". If there was a geenuine reason - like it didn\'t match what the punter had specified then fair enough. just think, the import has stumped money up front, gone to the time and expense of having the motor shipped, sorted out all the customs clearance, duty, VAT and so on. If he\' s then stuck with a car he can\'t sell just because the punter has changed his mind then I\'d say he\'d be quite within his rights to retain the deposit. After all, that\'s what the deposit is for - a good faith thingummyjig.
If you\'re not happy to take any risks then having someone import a car for you is probably not the right thing to do. You\'d be better off buying from someone\'s stock over here so you can check out the motor before parting with readies.
Like I said, genuine reason for refunding deposit would be if there were discrepancies between customer\'s requirement and what the car is like.
As for the thread on POCUK about NewEra - again maybe this is someone who should have bought a car that was already in the country. Descriptions though can be misleading and I don\'t think I would describe any Pajero as immaculate without personally seeing it first. They\'re nearly all heavilly smoked in, full of sand, fag ash, and so on and always need a good valet to bring them up good. However, from the point of view of the buyers, they need to do their research properly as well. I\'ve been to loads of those dealers who advertise "excellent condition", "immaculate", "perfect", "faultless" Pajeros and 9.5 times out of 10 what they say is bollocks. I\'m flogging a Paj at the moment that I\'d describe as very good for about £6k. It\'s far better in all respects than what some guys are selling for £10k which makes me really pleased with myself for not having been suckered into buying one when I first looked at imports ages ago.
