is the wastegate plumbed into the down pipe?  if not, thats where most of your noise is coming from on boost.

Post by: MINTER on July 08, 2008, 02:21:21 PM
suppose i should have worded it better..more when its on idle being exhaust noise its very noisy...when shes boosting its great seeing the peoples faces as you overtake and scare the bejesus outta them.....

would a bung solve this noisy exhaust on idle problem??

I think there is a launch control kit somewhere, stops wheel hop etc. Have a search bud, may be the answer to your probs without making the car look like its out of the fast and furious, lol

Glad your enjoying it mate! A diff brace will help you get it off the line quicker, it did have one once but i was only bowering it.
If you want it a bit quieter don\'t bother with a exhaust bung mate, it restricts the boost & isn\'t good for the engine, Just change the mid pipe for a silenced version you shouldn\'t lose any power & it\'ll be a fair bit quieter!
Enjoy mate!

Quote from: MINTER;515103lol..have one already...a RE-Amemiya type1 diffuser(cant see it from those pics))..trying to figure out the "fishtailing "when on a quick launch???

A wing won\'t help until higher speeds, neither will a diffuser. Both are aerodynamic items and will make no difference from a standstill.

Not sure what you mean by \'fishtailing when on a quick launch\'? If you mean that the rear kind of squirms from left to right then i would say that is normal; its a limited-slip diff so will throw the power to the wheel with the most grip, which alternates between the wheels as you are putting too much power down and spinning them both. Bear in mind your car is probably 200-300 kilos lighter than the Skyline you had (depending on model and year).

If you mean axle tramp, which is the pogo-ing of the rear axle when you launch hard...it can be annoying. A diff brace is the answer but they are horrible things; they fill the car with all the whining and graunching of the diff and gearbox at work. I ran one for a year and have now taken it off as i got sick of it. Strangely, mine tramped when i got it but doesn\'t seem to much any more. A grippy road surface can make all the difference. Pip at WGT told me he had special diff mounts that stopped it without needing to change to a diff brace.

Watch yourself in the wet. People these days are spoilt with their ASC and their TSC and their fancy diffs. Cars drive themselves. RX-7s are light, handle well enough in the dry to be skittish in the wet, have too much power (in your case) and no electronics to lend a hand. It can go wrong very quickly.

well wouldnt you know my luck..week and a half of ownership and the car has shat itself...:(:(:( thoughy it might have been a short on the fuel injection,so was working at the car and managed to flood it....... (started and turned it off too soon)

anyway got her unflooded eventually and tryied to susu to see if it was the fuel injection(dissed it and still running like crap)

car is struggling to hold on idle and is blowing blue and white smoke every were...had checked the garge for any signs of leaks etc and there was nothing...moved the car out the drive and startd her up with difficuklty..managed to kick and i held her just around 1.5k revs..the car is really blowing smoke everywere now and notice smoke coming from the engine bay just under th turbo were it seems theres an oil leak of some sort and this was burning off causing the smoke...
so now the car is struggling to hold the idle and theres heaps of blueish smoke along with this oil leak around the tubbie area.. and i aint got a boost guage to see whats happening there... this is not good..and i only have her 2 weeks

anyone have any ideas as to whats going on from those symptoms......

:(:(:(:(:(

Post by: Kevin on July 23, 2008, 04:10:55 PM
What where you doing prior to this?  I mean did you push it hard or something happend while you were out on your last drive?

Blueish smoke and oil leak could indicate failure of the turbo seals?  How many miles is on the turbo?

I cant really see it making it struggle to idle though?  That sounds more like a vacuum leak.  Again would help knowing what you did the last time you drove it and wether everything was ok?

How many miles is on the engine just as a matter of interest?  Have you taken it for a decent run since?

These cars are great when they work but suck balls when they dont (which is more often than not!)

Post by: Lum on July 23, 2008, 05:08:52 PM
Rubbish mate, hope it\'s nothing to serious. I\'m not sure what it could be from those symptoms??
Engine has done approx 8K & Turbo even less (6k).
Probably no concelation but the diff has destroyed itself in the GTR

Trouble holding the idle and rough running could be the vacuum pipe has popped off the map sensor - thats quite common.

As to the oil, thats probably the oil drain underneath the turbo: check that out.

shame to hear that mate as there isnt that many of us about bangor/north down (assumin that was you i saw out a few sundays ago)

if you do get really stuck there is a guy in portadown from New Zealand who is a rotary specialist and really knows his sh!t.  i can get you his number incase you arent to sure how/what to do.

he is in portadown

Where is the map sensor ?
Title: newbie here with a bloody mental RX7
Post by: memski on July 24, 2008, 08:06:10 AM
Map sensor is near the abs system, rear right of the engine bay if looking in. Vac hose leads to the upper inlet manifold.

Got the car up on a ramp the other day and was told one of my turbos is leaking... whats the oil drain underneath the turbo then could that be whats leaking? sorry very basic knowledge:o
Title: newbie here with a bloody mental RX7
Post by: nikp on July 24, 2008, 12:25:16 PM
Oil is fed to the turbos to provide lubrication, cooling and a bearing for the turbo sharft. This oil needs  to be returned, via gravity back to the sump. Hence, an oil drain. It\'s a pipe (or pipes with the twin turbo) that goes from the bottom of the turbo to just about the sump in the engine block. It\'s possible it could be leaking from the join.

take the plugs out, if there is oil going through the system yhis will foul the plugs. what were you doing when it went?

well i had left the house and drove a few miles easy to warm the car..went into the barbers for 20 mins then came out..started the car and checked to see that engine temps etc were fine...so give her some wellie out the road and she was really barking.lol...notice then that she was spluttering thern under acceleration but smoothed out further up the revs.. thinking here maybe broke a tip....?
when i changed the plugs during the flooding they were quite wet with oily residue on them..cleaned them up and put them back in....
ive the car booked in with Glen on monday but trying to prepare myself for the worse as normally its bad news from experience :(:(:

That\'ll defo be the problem mate! It\'ll run like a piece of S*** with that disconected:Giggle
As said mate any piece of vacume hose will do the job, there may be enough excess on the vacum hose to the dump valve to cut a small piece off & use that?
