Title: Best place for single water injection jet?
Post by: lockwood77 on July 08, 2008, 12:37:05 PM
Should be installing my Cooling Mist kit in the next few days, spent some time reading around about placement of the jet (only a single injector for me) and it seems that directly after the intercooler is best, but I notice a lot of people put it in the elbow, which is the other end of the "run" really. Anyone think it makes that much difference?

Also, Howard, the chap on rx7club.com who seems to be well into all this, has mounted his jets in the silicon joins of his pipes rather than drilling into the metal. I have HKS hard pipes and would prefer this so as not to screw them up, is there any reason not to do it (e.g. in the bit of silicon coupling the intercooler to the hard pipe)?

Just found a pic of the exact bit of piping I\'m talking about, any reason it would be a bad idea to fit the injector in, say, the left-hand side of the blue silicon from the intercooler to the pipe?

the only downside would be properly securing it- punching through silcone is going to make it a bit \'wobbly\'! tbh the price of getting a bent bit of ally (or mild steel) to use instead of your hks hardpipe is going to be pretty minimal, so i would do that.

btw, i think that Howard Coleman has located his injectors on his greddy elbow now from what i have seen of his FJO install

what system are you running mate? i am currently looking at a couple, but i want to map for water, so need one with all the bells and whistles- it is looking to be expensive!

I\'m putting the basic Cooling Mist kit in, I only want to reduce intake temps so won\'t be mapping to it. If I were mapping, I\'d be after an Aquamist HFS kit, but you\'re looking at £700 rather than the £250 inc. extras (tank, 52mm pressure gauge, operation LED, check valve etc.) that I paid!

I take your point on the silicone, it is likely to move around a bit, which isn\'t good for spray pattern/atomisation.

Do you think it will be difficult to tap the HKS pipe? It does look pretty thick, I have to say. Maybe I\'ll go for the elbow anyway, seems to work for plenty of people and as I say, I\'m just after some cooling so as long as it does that I\'m not too fussed.

i wouldn\'t have thought so,as they are aluminium aren\'t they- just a quick drill and tap! would have to make sure that the nozzle had enough depth though. if you want to keep them looking stock you could always come in from below, so you couldn\'t see the nozzle whilst looking in the engine bay
