Hi Guys
I have recevied an email from Paul, who is my contact for the Abbeville event, propopsing the following as an event ......
"We have a weekend on the National circuit at Rockingham on Sat 15/11. The national circuit is 1.7 miles of fun.. no banking and great fun.. also 105db noise so no issues..
Info on it here - http://www.lotus-on-track.com/docs/Rock-M7.pdf (http://www.lotus-on-track.com/docs/Rock-M7.pdf)
If it’s of interest I may run the sat in sessions with 20 mins per hour for 3 different clubs â€" LoT, Hondas on Track and a 3rd one....."
He is propsosing FD\'s on track also! Due to the title I have already had great response on FD:UK for this and wanted to ask you guys with FD\'s on here if you would also like the opportunity to participate.
It\'s a Saturday event and apparently pricing is good at £99 per car, min 18 cars. Again apprently, this volume of motors on a 1.7 mile circuit is good!
So ... Anyone interested? This a really good price. I am confident we can get 18 cars up for it. An "FD on track" event shared with Lotus and Honda?!
I also have a contact at Japanese Performance and Banzai so hopefully they will be covering the event!! I am also going to contact some of the better known FD owners like James Willday, Pete \'le whore\' sparrow and so on to see if they will attend, even if they don\'t participate!
I think Mark will struggle with this as you all know he owns a plastic pig as well as an FD! Oh well I\'ll just have to take the pig!!!! LOL
All fd\'s welcome!!
Thanks
Cheryl

Sounds like good fun. Count me in.
Well the proposal put to me was as an FD:UK session, but to be honest I don\'t mind a few FC\'s/FB\'s attending. A bit of variety never hurt anyone. But it would have to be RX7 only!
rotary engined kit car?
Haha, I\'ve already booked on this via HoT but with the FD! Happy to swap allegiance, but I have already paid under the HoT banner, so don\'t know if it\'s possible? (I also might take the DC5 instead of the FD if it\'s raining...)
Was at Rockingham on the VXR day a couple of weeks ago, infield is a bit tight and you won\'t be able to make much use of your power, but the big banked corner will see you sailing past the plastic cars and Hondas (except they\'ll be in different sessions of course...) :)
Tempted - Mrs M@r]{, do you know if there will be instruction available?
Quote from: elford_tim;515053Tempted - Mrs M@r]{, do you know if there will be instruction available?
yes, here it is
"go fast, dont crash" :Giggle:Giggle
See, you already left out an important piece of instruction that I\'ve figured out all by myself...
"Try not to go backwards down the track"
:D
if you adhear to the first instruction, the second wont happen :wiggle
I think instruction is a tenner extra, which is good value (made all the difference to my speed around Silverstone the other week!)
Tenner extra is not bad, given what you have to pay at other places. I\'ve only been to a couple of trackdays so far (and none of them in the RX) but I\'ve had instruction on each one and it made a massive difference to my speed.
Well, as much speed as you can get out of an MX5 that is :D
"Backwards" is Mark\'s favourite part of the day!!!!! LOL
Couple of questions popped up. 1, instruction and 2, payment due date. So I\'ve emailed Paul about both. :Typing
Pah ... sell your ticket to a Honda owner and come join us! And wont be raining, just nice and cool!! :yes
Quote from: lockwood77;515044Happy to swap allegiance, but I have already paid under the HoT banner, so don\'t know if it\'s possible? (I also might take the DC5 instead of the FD if it\'s raining...)
The MX5 is a top motor ... and quick ....
Did I mention to anyone that on an activity day, against all the RX7\'s, I got 1min 6secs in the 5 and the fastest time of the day was Tim in his FD at 1min 3secs!!!!! Did I ... Did I mention that?!!! LOL :spank :Giggle :wiggle
Quote from: elford_tim;515065as much speed as you can get out of an MX5 that is :D
MX5s do carry a surprising amount of speed, mainly because you do have to conserve momentum to make up for the lack of power. It\'s amazing what sort of bigger machinery you can keep up with on a twisty circuit.
I should get proper trackday tyres for mine on the weekend. They should make a massive difference, especially given that the rear ones on the car let go at the slightest hint of rain.
im interested in this, although i am currently trying to sort a towing eye out for mine (the stock one is hidden behind the bodykit) is it esential to have one?
i have a skid lid
Mark
I\'m sure someone on here has been so can answer better than I can but I\'m sure you need all the usual....
Helmet, License, Towing eye, clean pants! :Giggle
it should be sorted by then so hopefully wont be a problem just depends when a deposit it needed
Mark
Towing eye not normally essential but if they have to drag you out of the gravel be warned they may rip something off!
I don\'t have a towing eye and have done a few trackdays (Donington & Silverstone), although I do have a FEED pair on order from the group buy in the States! (Not that I think the front one will fit with my C-West nose, but hey...)
There aren\'t any towing eyes on the OEM car - what you can see are tie-down points, but they don\'t have the strength of a towing eye and are liable to bend or worse if the weight of the whole car is going through them (according to the guys on rx7club.com anyway).
thats what puts me off ive not do a track day (in my car) becasue if i do put it in the gravel there is nothing to use to get me out, like i say should be sorted by Nov :Thumbsup!

as regards to the towing eye,on a couple track days i done, they said they will get the car out and off the track asap, this means that if there is no towing eye they will use whatever they think is the next quickest thing to attach to be it around your strut brace(which would end up bent)a wheel(which would end up bent) or through the doors(which will end up bent)cilla the choice is yours...but they wont hang around for you to decide.
Spectating is very welcomed!!

Are there more than 20 places per group? That\'s quite a lot on a fairly short track, especially with a wide range of track experience.
Dont worry about space - the above list isnt a list of everyone who has paid up!! I believe at this point we have about 13-14 paid up - just waiting for an updated list of paid attendees from them.
Mark is there any update on this, times etc
thanks
Mark
I think an email is sent out 5 days beforehand.
Long range forecast says showers, weather around the 15th doesn\'t look too bad either so we may get away with it.
Lotus on Track
Track Day Guide
Rockingham â€" National circuit
This guide contains important information about your track day. It is vital for your safety, and the safety of others, that you are aware of the guide’s contents. Please read it thoroughly before you arrive. If you have further questions please email paul@lotus-on-track.com
CONTENTS
1. Arriving at the circuit
2. On track
3. General Information
4. Other useful information
1. ARRIVING AT THE CIRCUIT
You should arrive at the circuit in good time to complete three important steps. Before going on track you must sign on, attend a track briefing and check that your car is roadworthy.
Sign on
07:45-08.25
Please enter the circuit via the main entrance and follow the directions to the inner paddock. Once there you will be directed to parking and to sign on which will be in garage 12.
Complete an indemnity form â€" both drivers and passengers.
You will need to show your FULL driving license â€" both parts.
At sign-on you will receive a coloured wristband to indicate that you are signed on. You will also receive a session sticker, please affix this to the top left hand side of your windscreen (passenger side)
Track briefing
08:30 â€" 08:50
This briefing is mandatory for drivers and passengers. It explains the rules of your track day. This will be held in garage 12.
Self-Scrutineering Your car must be safe for you and others. Please check
• brake and indicator lights
• wheel tightness
• seat belt operation (where fitted)
• tyre tread patterns
Only drivers and passengers wearing the appropriate wristbands will be allowed on track.
2. ON TRACK
Your car and safety
Before going on track you must check your car for safety and roadworthiness â€" water, oil, battery connections, throttle return spring, brakes, tyres, wheel nuts, indicator lights are obvious items. Please remove all loose items from both ****pit and luggage areas.
Noise â€" The noise limit at Rockingham is 105db.
Familiarisation laps
The day is being run in 3 x 20 min sessions. The first 2 laps of the first session for each group will be held behind a pace car. There should be no overtaking in these 2 laps, this is your chance to familiarise yourself with the track layout and check the location of marshal posts and light gantries. Once the pace car returns to the pit lane at the end of the 2nd lap you may start lapping at normal track speed until the end of the session under normal track day rules.
Sessions
The Lotus session will be the first one of the day at 9.00am and will continue on the hour throughout the day. Mazdas will be the 2nd group out at 9.20am and Honda’s at 9.40am. Please listen for announcements in case there are problems and times change.
Track driving rules
Fast driving on a racetrack is clearly safer and more enjoyable than driving on public roads. Nevertheless, there are risks if drivers don’t have the right attitude, ignore the advice of experienced instructors or flout the basic rules of circuit driving. The following rules apply to most circuits.
1. Drive clockwise and to the right â€" never reverse on the track or in the pit lane.
2. Overtake only on the left and in the straights â€" never in corners or in braking zones
3. Overtake only with the consent of the driver in front of you â€" wait for the driver to signal consent by using indicator lights or by waving. The driver being overtaken must lift off the throttle until the faster car is safely past.
4. Check mirrors carefully before moving off your line to overtake or corner.
5. Keep moving â€" never stop on the track, even if you see an incident.
It is mandatory for all drivers and passengers to wear a crash helmet
Signals using lights or flags
Track sessions are controlled by flags or lights supplemented by flags. You need to know the position of marshal posts, where flags may be waved, and of light gantries or posts.
Red light or waved red flag Session is stopped • reduce your speed significantly (check mirrors)
• do not overtake
• move to the left to allow rescue vehicles to pass
• return to the pit lane and await further instructions.
Yellow light or waved yellow flag Danger ahead â€" an incident or a hazard
• reduce speed (check mirrors)
• do not overtake
• be prepared to stop.
Yellow & red striped flag There is spillage on the track or a change in conditions making driving dangerous • reduce speed and use caution.
Blue flag A faster car is behind. • allow it to pass at the first safe opportunity.
Black flag A problem with your car (damage, fuel leak etc) or there is a need to discuss aspects of your driving • return to the pits and report to the marshals.
Chequered flag This is the end of the session • reduce speed (cool off your engine & brakes)
• return to the pits at the end of your lap.
Incidents
Always drive within your limits. If your car spins or leaves the track then:
• follow the instructions of any nearby marshal
• rejoin the track if you can, but with extreme caution â€" if you cannot rejoin the track leave your car and get behind the barriers
• report to event control as soon as you get back to the pits.
If you consistently drive beyond your limits, event control officials will black-flag you and exclude you from the track for that session. If you get a second black flag, you will be excluded from the circuit for the remainder of the day.
In all matters of driver and passenger behaviour, the judgement of event control officials and marshals is final. Remember that the high speed handling characteristics of your car may change as conditions vary or your car warms up.
Pit lane safety
You can call in at the pits at any time during your track session. Signal your intention to enter the pit lane using your indicator. Keep to the pit lane side of the track and slow down â€" well before the pit lane entrance. The maximum speed permitted in the pit lane is 10 mph. Park so that other cars and emergency vehicles may pass.
The pit lane is restricted to drivers and cars involved with a track session. There must be no
• refuelling or smoking in the pits or the pit lane
• pit signalling
• children under 16 in the pit lane
• pit (or in-car) timing equipment
3. GENERAL INFORMATION
Driver and passenger safety
Drivers are allowed to carry one passenger. Drivers and passengers must
• have signed on
• wear appropriate (driver or passenger) wrist-bands
• wear clothing that fully covers arms and legs
• wear a crash helmet
• wear a seat belt (if fitted) at all times.
In addition, passengers must
• be over the age of sixteen
• occupy the front seat only.
Insurance
Normal road vehicle insurance is not valid when you are on track or off the highway at a private venue. The indemnity, which you must sign, excludes you from making any claim against damage to the car or the driver/passenger however it is caused. You may be able to arrange insurance cover for the day through your existing broker or insurer. Alternatively, you can take out special track day insurance from a specialist.
Off track
There are some general restrictions that apply:
• animals are not permitted
• children must be over 16
• in car photography (videos must be for private use only and securely mounted)
4. OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
Directions to the circuit:-
Rockingham Motor Speedway is near Corby, Northants, with easy access from the M1, M6 and A14.
Detailed directions to the circuit can be found on the circuits website here â€" http://www.rockingham.co.uk/about/directions.asp there are directions from all areas of the UK.
Nearest petrol:â€"
Fuel is available at the circuit between 9am and 10am and then again at lunch time. However, if this is closed leave the circuit and turn left and there is an ASDA with a petrol station about 1 mile along this road on the right hand side.
“One on One†tuition available: â€"
ARDS instructors will be available throughout the day to offer general advice and assistance. You can book “one on one†instruction at an additional cost of £10. An instruction session consists of an instructor accompanying you as a passenger and giving guidance. Bookings are on a first come first served basis.
Lunch & close:-
We will stop for lunch at 12.00 for 1 hour. The day will end at approx 4pm.
IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS ON THE DAY PLEASE SEE A MEMBER OF STAFF. It is too late to sort an issue after the day!
Good day today, enjoyed it, although I\'ve done something nasty to my brakes yet again - daylight will no doubt reveal all.
Hope the chap that mashed his FD into the armco manages to get it sorted soon. If it\'s any consolation, I was very jealous of your intercooler! :)
And apologies to the guy in the red FD behind me when I decided to take an alternative line after the chicane and went grasstracking! :o

in a year!
Still a bit of a shake down for me as i only finished putting it together at 9 ocklock last night, but getting there. Spent the morning tweaking what i could. Still need stiffer anti roll bar(s) but that will come.
The car performed really well everywhere else. Water temps never more than 86 degrees and oil temps never more than 95 which is great for a rotary on track. Brakes work a treat and the front tyres have sooo much grip!
492 bhp per ton and 508 ftlbs per ton at 6psi boost. Still in the early stages with the power so that will increase.

Quote from: lockwood77;554867Hope the chap that mashed his FD into the armco manages to get it sorted soon. If it\'s any consolation, I was very jealous of your intercooler! :)

It\'s right at the start buddy.
P.S. Nice driving Saturday, I\'ll try and keep up next time as discussed with a set of 888\'s :D

Oh yeah. I skipped to the end first, thinking it would be there!
yes, sticky tyres are the way forward. You should go racing....you were hardest to pass on Saturday... :)
Top day all round.
I stuck James\' bent car on my trailer (my winch was not a happy bunny!) and he drove the BMW-and-Trailer combo to some farm-type place where we met a bunch of people (who were they?), while i followed in my Rex, having fitted slightly less illegal tyres ;)
Then we dragged it off, the front wheel sticking each turn, and stuck mine on. Finally got home about 9pm.
Nice to meet some of you again, and some for the first time.
Andy
Yup, the above is what Papercup did .............. :god ..... what a star. Kindness and helping out another driver doesn\'t get better than that.

too true its what a club is all about:Thumbs-up
