Title: Removing the OMP?
Post by: interloper393 on July 04, 2008, 11:27:16 PM
How many of you have done this mod? spotted a kit that completely removes in and supplys the correct jet bungs so it dosnt leak.. i know you need to run premix, has anyone ever blew there engine up running premix due to oil starvation?

Have deleted my OMP, you are safer running premix as you know its mixed with the fuel and will never get oil starvation

does the omp work on de-acceleration?

was reading up onit on rx7club, there was guys saying that the omp increases the amount of oil as the revs increase but the injectors will increase the amount of fuel with rev increase so works in the same way, or am i looking at it all wrong lol..
looking at ways to simplify the engine as much as poss being my next fd will be mainly for track use..

I\'ve done this, as long as you don\'t forget to put the correct quantity of 2stroke in you\'ll be ok. Mechanical fault vs human, if the omp fails the car goes into limp home mode, if the line(s) splits or breaks then you could be in trouble, this was my main worry, that and the fact that I wanted to be in control of how much lube the rotors get once I started modding the fd.

kewl nice one :)

So say 70litres of fuel, how much oil are u guys using? is it 10ml per litre?

I use 100:1 fuel: oil, so if I\'m going to fill up with 70 litres of fuel, I put in 700ml of oil first. I carry a graduated 1L bottle around and keep it topped up.

interloper i am assuming the kit is from Banzai? i was looking at it as well, and may well go down the same route. i like taking things out of my engine bay! or is it a step too far for a daily driver?

That\'s my main worry about running premix only, cos when you are not on throttle the injectors are closed so surely the rotors are getting no oil at this stage ??

also, does the omp vary the oil purely as a function of rpm? if so then say motorway cruising where you are at a reasonable rpm but low injector duty, is there a risk of starving the engine? of do you dose the fuel for this and then run a little oil rich whilst boosting?
or am i reading too much into this and getting unnecessarily worried?

yeah its the banzai racing kit, your engines going to be constantly getting fuel so it`ll always be getting  oil 2 i would think, even when on de-acceleration

injectors are closed on de acceleration.... check out your pfc 0.0 duty

but theres still guna be petrol/oil mix in yer engine else it`ll cut out lol

really? and just how does the petrol/oil get in the engine with zero injector duty?

yeah there not putting anymore in but there still gunna be petrol in the block

you would hope not, otherwise it would mean pretty poor combustion during normal running. also the flow of air through the cylinders will blow any unburnt vapor out pretty quickly, i.e. within a couple of revolutions.

so if you de-accelerated for long enuff the engine would cut out on you? as there a be no fuel?

no, as the engine is still being turned over. however the power for turning over doesn\'t come from the fuel, but from the wheels via the gearbox (hence engine braking). once the rpm lowers to close to idle speed the ecu registers this and opens the injectors enough to maintain idle speed, if it didn\'t do that then yes it would stall.
the ecu is constantly looking at current rpm and desired rpm, and adjusting fueling as required, so if the engine is at high rpm and it should be at a low rpm, it will cut the fuel until the correct rpm is achieved. vice versa, when it is at low rpm and you floor it, it dumps in more fuel.

ahh ok lol, so back to my original question lol
