Title: Roll cages
Post by: Brett on July 04, 2008, 05:16:47 PM
Are there any rules and regs regarding roll cages?  Any reason why I couldn\'t just make my own?

Cheers :wave

Yes there are many rules.

But unfortunately too many to list.

Read the blue book, or alternatively why not buy one from us?  Ours are rated to FIA spec, there is little point welding in a cage if you then cant sell it or it gives you false hope and in the event of a crash fails.

We have 5 of our cages in happy customer cars!!

I was just curious - I\'ve no plans to compete - I was just wondering.  (For certain cars I\'m sure a cage is the simplest and most effective method of stiffening the whole thing up)

It will add a geat deal of stiffening to the car, especially as we seam weld the entire car too.

If you cage a car you are limiting your market for resale, as most insurance companies will turn the car down.  If you fit a non motorsport version you are limiting it even more.

Get blue book, conform to it, get cage inspected and certified. If you dont want to race in MSA/FIA stuf then u can do what you like - as Jon says it could obviously be detrimental to the resale value of the vehicle tho.
