Title: some weirid stuff
Post by: sickboy2345 on June 30, 2008, 10:41:25 PM
k now but at the weekend i had some weirid things happening...

basically i removed my aircon (apart from whats behind the glove box - heard that would start causing some probems - dont know what tho)installed my gauges (still waiting for a sandwich plate but gauges are wired and already in)

after all that i started the engine and i spotted that my speedo shows 30mph and my mileage is going up..idle was on 1500 then after a while it started going down..(was accelerating and stuff, proper reving it )at the end got back to normal state..(800)

took my car for a spin and blown one water hose(one u use to bled the air) had to replace it so i had to take UIM off taken it off replace few more hoses, put everything back together and after i started the engine i had the same thing, idle 1000 mileage going up, had to put my foot on the accelerator pedal, accelerate d few times, then turn the enine off/on etc and after a while  it got back to normal...

third thing happened just now, ok maybe not weirid but for me is...

i installed a boost gauge(like 15 mins ago) maybe i just dont know how to read it but on 1st gear , before i went to second was just below 10 then 10 etc.

got to the big roundabout and started drifting around it, my  Boost gauge was showing 11/12 Psi then i slowed down (some geezer wanted to get on the roundabout so i thought its the right time to take off) but then car started breaking up, like a fuel cut or something - but not sure coz my reserve light went on aswell(forgotten to fill it up today :] )so it might be nothing serious..

ideas?

i had the same today, started the engine today and i had the same problem, my speedo was showing like 20mph and revs about 1000 + the boost gauge niddle was on much more then 0 and it was shaking like if it wanted to go up- and down at the same time...

after i put my foot down and rev it a bity (it gets to 3k revs everything goes back to normal, and after rev gets to just below 2 it starts again...

what is it? i was just thinking maybe when i installed my gauges i fu**ed something up? did anyone see it before?

Well i think maybe it detonated when you were drifting round an island with no fuel in the tank. Hopefully it aint detonated and cracked an apex seal as that is what a fluctuating boost gauge means = uneven compression = cracked apex seal. If it ticks over normally, it was just a bit of fuel starvation. Dont let it drop below 1/4 tank next time though, otherwise you\'ll be replacing the dreaded fuel filter sooner than later!

yeah but it didnt happen after drifting, it was before that, after i removed the aircon and installed my gauges(done it all on saturday),.:(

So it started playing up, and you proceeded to take it out and rag the ass of it?

defo sounds like an electrical problem, looks like you may have disconnected something whilst removing the air con, I would recommend taken it to Rotary specilist to fix your electrical woes

i did but the thing is that when the engine is warmed up its not playing up ...well maybe today i felt a little loss of boost after a while driving...

the thing is when i was testing it it was all fine when i disconnected the air pump..when i accelerate the airpump stops after 2k or something..and thats when my car goes back to normal...when the revs go down airpump will engage and it starts playing up...wtf???

so have you removed the air pump now or not? is it still on the car

I don\'t mean to sound harsh, but i seriously think you need to take your car to someone who knows what they are doing and get them to sort out all the issues with it, as it sounds like there are some things that need sorting before you do anything else to it.

yeah but how do i know if its something serious if noone can tell me..what if it is and it will die on the way to the specialist?(closest one is about 130 miles away)

blitzboy:

we was checking it , accelerating, listening to the engine, trying to find the fault, and then my mate spotted slight air blow from the BOV, like if it was accelerating a little bit then my mate just disconnected the airpump, just the cable from it and everything went back to normal, connected it again and it got messed up again..

just drive it off boost to a specialist you should be safe, and if it cuts out on the way call the AA and get it towed to the specialist, these are expensive cars to run and there are no cheap easy fixes I am afraid

that doesnt help much...i\'m not gonna drive to the specialist every time i have a problem...

No but you seem to have a hell of a lot of problems with the car.
Take it there once, get them all sorted by someone who knows what they are doing, bite the bullet and just pay them, then you have a stable base to work from. :burnout

Then, before doing anything, spend a long time searching and getting all the info you could possibly need about it, and only embark on it if you are truly confident you can sort it.:Thumbs-up

LOL it seems you have major problems not minor ones (not quick fixes) hence why I suggested it should be at least looked at by a specialist and given a good once over.

If you dont have the budget to have it look at by a specialist thats fair enough, but dont come out with comments like "That doesnt help much"

So you are relying on us guys who have these cars everytime you have a problem to fix it or come up with a solution, yes we can help with most things if we can, but sometimes you have to admit defeat and get someone who works on these cars every day to look at it for you.

if i was going for a single turbo conversion, engine rebuild whatever complicated that requires lots of reaserch and experience then yest ROTARY SPECIALIST straight away..but not with something like that...i think its a grounding problem something with wires maybe..dont know but im trying to find out

you r saying im having lots of problems with my car - when i bought it it wasnt driveable, and i knew nothing about it (good example i was adding coolant to the overflow bottle :) - im IT not  a mechanic) after 2 months got rid of all the faults - all by myself(doing research , reading manuals, asking milions of questions)

im am not giving up on something like that..thats why im asking questions, not to get an answer like that im actually looking for a solution..sorry if you got me wrong i didnt mean to offend you...

i can see your point but i would take it to some one just for your peice of mind.

the problems your experiencing are not common faults but if it was ok before you added gauges and removed the air-con then i would recommend going through everything again.

re the speedo, i had a loose  connection to my boost controller which was causing me problems with my rev counter.

i am gonna check everything once again(all the wiring etc - whatever i done to it lately)

btw heres what it does(on the video car was completely warmed up so it was like that only for a while i reved it few times and it went away, but on the cold engine it will stay for ages)

just a loose/dodgy connection some where, from the looks of the boost gauge movement you could possible have a vacuum leak from when you took the UIM off

what wrong in weird stuff 2??

just looks like a slack throttle cable??

yeah i was just filming it for someone to ask if thats ok, but apparently it is ment to be like that...
the boost gauge thing is probably  - like you said vaccum leak - btw, can i drive it like that? or is it not supposed to be driven when i have a vaccum leak? someone sent me that:

http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/hoses.htm

i just need to get some hoses and replace them all(im gonna leave them two with the restrictors - as im too worried ill do something wrong (i dont know what he means by needle valves and dont know how exactly do it so...

just now checked all my connections on gauges - they were fine  wtf  seriously i can now remember that the problem started when i disconnected the AC i remember starting the engine and we have had that and then installed the gauges and it happened again, just now i tried even unplugging all the cables going to the stereo, gauges, etc. it just still does it but what i noticed just now is when i turn any electrical device on AC or Lights speedo comes back to normal, its just when i start the engine... maybe i knocked some wires out when disconnecting the AC? what could it possibly be?
