Title: quicky about temps
Post by: rsrex on June 30, 2008, 02:56:32 PM
when i bought my car i was told i shudnt really give it any beans til the oil temp got to about 75.
problem being when i travel at speed the car stays at about 60 sometimes as low as 50. depending on the weather.
around town its between 75 and 90.
if its already heated properly and then cools down on the open road is it safe to open it up ?

I would say so, yes.

However, make sure you\'re getting a proper indication of the true oil temp... 50-60deg sounds very low, unless that\'s durng the winter with ice cold air flowing in  :)

what I mean is, make sure you\'re confident that the oil temp sensor is in the right place and that the gauges are working fine.

Mine will idle at about 70deg.... any driving at all pushes it to about 80deg... quick (on boost) driving goes much higher though obviously.

its aftermarket greddy guages. at idle its anything between 70 and 90. and it rises kwik when its still. its got a front mount intercooler and bigger radiotor that holds 1.5 litres extra coolant i think. would that be why its quite low ?
