Title: Spacers for setting end float.
Post by: Matt_K on June 30, 2008, 08:51:02 AM
Just got my engine back together yesterday, can\'t borrow a dial indicator until mid week, so not sure exactly how much endfloat I have / dont have. It feels tight, and with the C stamped spacer, from what i\'ve read I\'d need to move to a D or E (correct?)

Just to pre-empt any potential problems in it being too loose / too tight, where could I get spacers from quickly?

There is a very small amount of difference between the spacers, and as long as it is not flopping about all over the place then you won\'t be able to tell if you need to change the spacer or not until you have checked the tolerance.

If it feels tight but all turns freely, it\'s all good. :)

there needs to be end float, if there is none then you will of crushed one of the roller bearings in the front cover and this will eventually kill the engine!

Yeah, I\'m fully aware of why there needs to be endfloat between 0.04 - 0.07mm.

Obviously i\'m unsure of exactly how much there is until I can borrow a dial gauge. So I\'m not worrying about which size I need, it\'s just where to get them from IF I need to. It\'s my first rebuild too so I have no pre-conception of "yeah, that feels wrong" which is why i\'m playing it by the workshop manual to the letter. Crossing my T\'s and dotting my I\'s

Regardless of whether I need a larger or small spacer - Is it something i\'m gonna have to go to mazda for? or does a trader / rebuilder on here have a selection I could purchase at quick notice?

I got a different spacer from RX Motors, they should be able to help you out if you are out of tolerance.

Rx motors or rotechnics are your guys. Got my roller bearings from rotechnics. £3 delivered the next day. Bargain
