Hi everybody,
Bought an rx7 last week, and put it straight into a \'regular\' garage for oil change, plugs etc. Picked it up yesterday and drove about 40 mins to a petrol station. A guy pulls up next to me and tells me i\'ve got a leak.
Quite a bit of water has poured out from drivers side by the front wheel and the engine seemed very hot . When i got it home i discovered the coolant was full to the brim and the water dipstick is well over full.
So i rung the garage and they said they had topped it up!
Question is does this sound like it has just been overfilled or is something else going on?
Is being overfilled going to cause any problems?
Do these engines get very hot over a 40 min drive... slightly steaming, sounded like it was gurgling abit? is that normal
Any advise would be appreicated:)
Thanks James
welcome, you may have a an air lock, do a search on the champagne test on here, it will tell you if the water seals a fduked or not
if the car has been overfilled it will escape out of the expansion tank in the drivers side front corner so it may be that. now its just at full see if you get any issues with water loss or temps if you dont then you have answered your own question.
Hi James and welcome to MRC
You will find you have 3 places to put water in but only check and put water into the one actualy on the engine and forget the other two.
If somebody has put water in every where it may take the system a while to level itself off again
Also as Mark (Blitzboy) says you can use the search button above to help check out the water system
Hope this helps
Thanks for the replys. I\'ll try out those suggestions. I\'ve got to say i\'ve posted on two other forums and recieved no replys. 3 poeple replied on the same evening... nice to see peole actually use this forum... think i\'ll stick with this one.... cheers guys
also check the pipework from your expansion bottle, and the pipework from your AST. They have sprung plastic coils over the pipe which are prone to going brittle and snapping.
I found that my rx7 would only spurt water when hot after i\'d stopped the car.
look for 2 connectors in the pipes, they\'re like double ended butt connectors in the pipework around the ast/expansion bottle, and make sure they\'re clamped/jubilee\'d :)

just to help u find the pipework i\'m tryin to describe, thats my setup, and u can see the pipe (approx 10mm thick) infront of the upper mushroom running horizontally :)
and yes i accidently posted this in the wrong thread earlier :P
Thanks Johnp thats very helpful i\'ll look later today
Cheers
James
