just seen simons @ norris designs updated evo.
the green (bogey) one with the cut down shell. hes mounted the engine the proper way now ie 90 deg from what it was and has a £15,000 holinger gearbox and up past the 1000bhp mark now.
is there any rx7 out there going this crazy.
i personly think its great in some ways, but i couldent afford that i spent less than that on my car including buying it.
can we steal skyline diffs etc too? like he has.
heres a wee link to a bitch fight about it but got some good info in there somwhere too.

Hmm, not much Evo left really. Given the several hundred thuosand he mustve put into it so far, I\'d imagine you could build a pretty useful RX7 :)
I think RX7s more then beat that thing as it always cr*ps its transfer box on the line hahahaha :rollin
When you say match it, do you mean one that can beat it round a track, one that would beat it in a straight line or just out and out dyno queen power?
Im sure Ross\' drag car would hold it\'s own against it. Plus there\'s Slivermans_Rx (spelling?) thats just made Pip\'s dyno poop itself.
As 20b boy said given enough money you could achieve most things with any car, but you think with all that money, design, research and effort they could of picked a better fcuking colour.
I suspect it might not fall to bits off the line now Mark - He\'s using Skyline deffs to cope with the power rather than the mitsi diff and that Hollinger looks mahoosive.
yeah thats why hese got the holinger box and skyline diffs in it i think.
agreed very expensive, but still an evo
heres me thinking 500bhp was a lot. never mind
lol 2 new post whilst wrighting mine lol
yeah a mean round a track not just power.
but more to the point PIPS DYNO????????
what happend has he got a new one yet. ive still not got my car maped !!!!!
well lets see what happens this time if he takes it Japan in the Tsukuba Time Attack this year, lets see if it beats the Panspeed RX7s time of approx 55 seconds
Pips Dyno asked that they stop, so they did, the dyno is ok, just couldn\'t give a full reading on the silversnail!
There are one or two RXs that could challenge the bogey on power and a few which could give it a hard time on the strip.

It\'s still alive just couldnt handle the powerz..... :Thumbsup!
thats good to know
so what kinda power do you need to overpower pips dyno?
There you go mate, enjoy...

forget what they claim, get it up the strip and then brag. 1000 bhp out of a 2 litre is pretty impressive though

Indeed, talk is cheap but a 1/4 time or circuit lap needs no explanation.
erm a dyno print out is a far more acurate way of showing a good engine than a 1/4 mile slip
i think its funny when people say stuff like that.
i think i rember dragon saying (but dont quote me) i dont power test my engines i use the drag strip??
but if you want to know how good an engine is you use a engine power measuring tool. ie a dyno lol
pluss the swiss and norway folks have had 1000bhp cossies for a while now @ 2 litre so yet again the uk lags behind
Missed my point a bit matey - 1000bhp or 500 or 250, it\'s what you do with it that counts.
Dynos can be played with, and their outputs vary from hardware to harddware. A 160mph terminal cannot and can directly be related to horse pwoer.

got it in one
bhp is pub talk

Only if you know accurate numbers for drag though!

I was talking about the car as a package, 1000 bhp or 2000 bhp, it doesnt matter, as a car, if it cant perform the car as a whole is not a good one, but i did say the engine was good with that dynod power. I believe dynos are a good tool for measuring engine performance but if you build a drag car with a good engine but everything else is crap then its pointless.
I remember the car last year and it looked like it should be awesome, it sounded and looked great but everytime they launched it the launch control failed or they couldnt change gear properly IIRC. They only got 1 good clean run in every 5. Lets hope they can do better this year cos the good launches were impressive to watch.
Now the fensport corolla and celica are consistently good cars :InLove
Quote from: antnicuk;512301Now the fensport corolla and celica are consistently good cars :InLove
until Time Attack Tony when the celica blew something up in qualifying lol....didnt sound too good at all.
The more strain you put on the car the more chance there is of something going wrong and damaging something.
People say about the GTR diffs. Yeah they are good but not bullitproof as i destroyed my front transfer box on mine and mine was only running 650 bhp
Putting that sort of power through a car something will break. Guess there are just some luckier than others who can afford to fix the problem the next day
surely it must be only a drag car i would have thought 1000bhp would be too much for a track car. Also i wouldnt have thought 1000bhp in a evo would be very reliable i dont expect it would last many laps of any track
No its used as a all round car
he won TOTB6 with it and that includes drag, top speed and handling
blimey i thought i read somewhere that in Japan they sometimes have to detune some cars as they are too powerful for track.
I imagine that unless you\'re on the strip maybe only a half of that 1000hp will be usable power. On a tighter track especially, a similiar car with less power will be easier to drive -less fatiguing on the driver, without them having to worry about traction coming out of corners etc, also potentially a more usable powerband, as increasing power tends to move everything to a narrow band at the top, affecting overall drivablility.
It takes a very good driver to be able to make the most of that kind of power (not saying Simon isnt btw). An amazing car, would love to be able to own/build something that mental one day
here you go - some footage just in case you haven\'t seen: #;o)

Just read the MLR thread, quite funny in places, to my mind its still an Evo Modified given its still has the Evo Engine and Body.
But when you draw the line whether it is or not is an interesting question.
Questions in our world does MAzda RX7 still an RX7 if it has a V8 but still has an RX7 body? The "R" in RX7 used by Mazda to note its a "R"otary engined.
Or a RX7 with most of the chassis replaced with tube frame but still has a Rotary Engine and RX7 outer shell is this still an RX7?
Interesting questions I feel, In my mind so long as it still has the Rotary engine and still the outer body its still an RX7, an RX7 with a V8 is still a Mazda FD3S but not an RX anymore if ya catch my meaning.

I see your point.
Not making fun, but use silvermanrex as a good example make a point. You have no way of identifying the power of his engine neither the effiency of his setup by him driving it on a strip, He was running terminal speed hugely different than Ross was in the very same car.
It\'s hard to compare cars on a strip as you have weight, driver skill, conditions.
Where as on a dyno even though from one place to another the reading may vary, they don\'t vary by that much that it becomes an ineffective tool for measuring the performance of your engine for a given set of modifcations.
You take for example the lads on here running hks t51r, for a given set of mods and a given amount of boost, you have some kind of benchmark when on a dyno to compare the effiency of your setup. If Blitzboy and my self we\'re both running half bridge t51r etc etc and same boost, if I got 60bhp at the wheels less with the exact same setup. The dyno tells me more about the effiency of my setup than a track would for at the track we may clock the exact lap time or at a strip we may hit the same terminals at the end of 1/4 mile. A dyno is not a bragging tool to say I have this and I have that it\'s tool used to measure and manipulate the performance of your given setup.

Reading this, the quote I was looking for is:
Quote"If you can leave black marks from the time you exit a corner till the time you brake for the next turn, then you have enough horsepower." --Mark Donohue
:D
Regardless of everything else, if you\'re racing and have the skills to use it then you really can never have enough power! Looks at the old 1.5 1500bhp F1 engines, massive turbo lag, huge power spikes, but they could drive it ya know ;)
agree with above you can have to much power for given situations but thats why the accelerator is progresive not on/off
theres evos that go round knockhill for time atack. very twisty tight circuit and they are 700+bhp and seem to manage fine.
but as been said its what you do with it that counts.
But terminals are no way related to power as i used to drag a 205 at crail and have same terminals as cars with near 100bhp more than me. unless you mean in same car tyres ratios etc?
a 1/4 measures power and traction gearing etc
a dyno measures engine power
a hub dyno or rollers measure hub/wheel power which to ME maters most as thats what im puting down and thats what i have to make the most of
a track measures sainity of the driver
either way whatever hapens if it goes pop it might as well be a box cart
yes dynos are tuning tool but dont tell you how well a CAR has been built to do what it was built for, which is what we are talking about. The thread title is : norris design evo. any rex to match it? Not, 1000 bhp engine!
As for too much power, it is much harder to drive a huge powered car that is very laggy and peaky round a track, throttle response does come into a litle but when your power climbs 500 bhp in less than a 1000 rpm, it makes it almost impossible to get traction round a circuit and its almost like an ON/OFF switch.
so is silvermanrex going in for totb or anything this year.
Here\'s a car that has beaten Norris.. 5 pot audi turbo power

My car made the power on a hub dyno,no wheelspin, the figure is as accurate as you can get.145 mph terminal good enough for you:flamed with a 2.1 second 60ft or do you want more, because theres alot more to come,155mph+.:WaveBye

I\'m selling my s2 today so i can get a rx7 :Giggle
The thing that shocks me the most is Jonus is still running standard suspension shocks and bushes (not even coilovers).. Think he\'s uprating them for this year but only to poly bushes and KW coilovers.
The drive train is stock too
Madness

Agreed. As far as I can see you can spend as much time and money, and put as much engineering into a car as you like but unless it performs at its given discipline(s) its all irrelevant. Norris seems to have built a racing, car, well let it race...
That said I
do admire a good bit of engineering. I probably love the building, the craftsmanship going into these cars more than the racing! :2eek

i couldnt have put it better myself!:Thumbsup!:cheers
I seen this car in action when it had 850\'ish bhp and it was damp - the car was sat on the spot most of the time as it was spinning everywhere..... but when it was dry the think covered the distance like nothing i\'ve seen on a street legal car. Would love to see a serious RX against it to see how the power is delivered.

sorry, i must have missed your point, i was talking about people who brag about power but dont produce results on the strip, you have been on the strip so its obviously not aimed at you! :Thumbsup! now get out there and get practicing, lets see some 9\'s :spank
very impressive rexman. how come your 60 foots are that high? id imagine it spins like a bitch! im running 1.79-1.89 60 foots in my 300hp pulsar.
